Media Center stops playing and displays "Buffering"
« on: April 14, 2013, 07:44:02 am »

Hello,

Sometimes when playing music, MC stops playing and displays "Buffering" (and never continue to play the song). When it is in that state the Windows resource monitor shows that MC uses around 30% of the CPU (when it is playing normally, it uses around 2%).

My configuration is the following (see also  below): it is a CAPS V3 Carbon with a tX-USBexp PCI express USB 3.0 card connect to an Halide Design Bridge. The server is connected (Ethernet) to a NAS where all files (FLAC 44,1 kHz-16bit) are stored. MC is installed on the internal SSD disk. No anti-virus installed, audio path is direct. Output mode is WASAPI event style

Please, can you help me? Thank you!

Didier

The NAS may be failing to deliver the data.

Thank you for your reply. I don't thing it is the cause of the problem because:
-when MC stops playing and displays "Buffering", I can access the files on the NAS via Explorer
-when I used my other server (CAPS V2), I have never had this problem and my CAPS V3 uses the ethernet connection I used with the CAPS V2 (same connection, same network, same NAS)
-when MC stops playing, I can choose another album and start playing it.

I uninstalled J River, reinstalled it and rescanned all my music library installed on the NAS (ReadyNAS) but it does not solve the problem.

Any idea of what can I do in order to solve the problem?

Try playing from the local drive.  If that works, the problem is the NAS.

If everythings is the same it looks like a problem with the ethernet connection of the V3

Hello,
Yes, maybe... The V2 is the same except that it is a Win 7 64 server and V3 is a Win 8 64 one.

What can I do in order to indentify if it is really a problem with the ethernet connection of V3?

Had the same issue with playing music from my Synology server.  Tried adjusting the buffer time from 20 sec to 6 sec (recommended by the way) and it fixed it right up.  I do have my server set to sleep during inactivity and am still unsure why 6 seconds would work and 20 seconds doesn't, but I'm glad I found it.  It was irritating.  Hope this helps.
