Egg Factories
« on: May 21, 2013, 06:17:53 am »

I've got some feedback that others (I promised to keep Fitbrit's name out of this!) are also keen on contributing to some bribes and corruption for my proposal, but it seems that the JRiver folk may be above such crude attempts to pervert the course of development!

So....I've got my thinking cap on..... Muffins don't work, BD's don't work.... tried nagging, pleading, even what passes for logic for me..... Then it struck me!  Given the Omaha Steaks poll of the year, I've think I've tracked down the perfect enticement (well for Jim)... Oz Chooks!  Like MC these "egg factories" just keep on giving!

I have found a mob that will ship 15 Australorp chicks to JR... I was about to place the order but I thought I'd better check first as I'm not 100% sure if they would be a gift or a curse! :-X  I know that Jim has some land but for all I know Matt lives in an apartment and they would make a such a terrible mess.... but the evil side of me say press "buy now" anyway  ;D

Quote
Black Australorp Chickens

A champion egg-laying chicken breed, the Black Australorp was introduced to the United States around the 1920s. The Australorp was originally developed in Australia from the Orpington Chicken to create a breed with a higher quality egg production without sacrificing too much size and meat quality. This breed is now a competitive contender for one of the most popular "backyard chicken" breeds as well as the most productive egg laying breed.

We have the perfect chicken house...

But we would need a Chicken Master or Mistress.  Do you have any available?  They would need to be around 10 or 12 years old, and not eat too much.

I always knew Aussies were nuts but you lead them all ;D.

Jim needs to film their arrival and release. And name them of course, they need a name. You didn't happen to send as many as there are developers, did you? Not that I want to give any ideas but Jim really is a nice name ... even for a chicken  ;D.

Yup - Our chooks all have names like Butter, Noodle, etc....

I should also say to Jim that thanks for the kind offer of puppies and snakes but we already have plenty of both.  We had to call in the local wildlife service to deal with a 6 foot red belly black snake that got tangled in the chook netting last year but it got away.... so is still lurking somewhere in the back yard!

Yeah but do those smiles have thoughts of "let's get these chicks fattened up and bring on Sunday dinner" behind them? Or is it the joy of knowing that shop bought eggs will soon be a thing of the past?

Well done jmone for bringing some chook inspired joy to the MC engine room.

Here are more pictures.  Veronique put the shipping box in the bigger cardboard box to open it.  Matt is holding a chick.  The chicks spent the day in Veronique's Gallery.  I brought them home at the end of the day.  They're in the laundry room now, peeping.

Nathan,
Thank you.  It's a big responsibility you gave us, but it was a very kind thing to do.  We had a lot of laughs today, thanks to you.

It always amazes me how such small creatures brings smiles like this and washes away the day to day hassles of modern life (and I truly hope the responsibility does not turn into a burden.... though one of the chickens peeping will one day turn into crowing!).  Even Matt (who has been very quiet on this topic) looked like he was having a bonding moment!

Mmmm... rotisserie chicken.

I remember when I was a kid going to the hen house to get eggs for breakfast, I think there was like 24 chickens and one rooster.

some of them were not so nice, and would peck at your hand when you tried to get there eggs.

no I got into cooking when my wife started to become disabled, it is hard for her to stand for long periods. she don't work anymore because of it, I wish some Dr. could fix her but she has seen about 6 Dr's who say they can't help her. they will not operate again because her skin is too thin now.

Getting old is not fun.

Tonight I made baked Turkey wings on top of a bed of sliced potatoes, and draped with thick cut peppered bacon.

Tomorrow I am going to make hamburgers using Tomatoes out of my garden, We have had three dinners with BLT's dang home grown tomatoes are so good compared to the green house tomatoes the stores sell.

Completely agree.

Used to say I didn't really like tomatoes.
It was only that I'd never had a good one.  Now I say, I'm pretty darn particular about them.
