Hi All,

My new card won't resolve 192kHz music - I just get a very slow sound like a disc slowed down.

I have tried:

+ The latest Asus drivers
+ The latest UNI drivers
+ All the obvious settings in JR v 18 options.

Plus checking every setting I can find.

Ripped CD and 92kHz play fine.

What worries me is that no one else seems to have this problem.

Any hints welcome!

OK -- I can't play anything above 44.1kHz, so have set JR 18 to this value in DSP settings.

Which setting is it I need to change?

So frustrated!

What output are you using from Media Center? (ASIO, WASAPI, Direct Sound etc.)

Thanks for the reply - ASIO, 24 bit, 2ms.

I can see ASIO clearly in the audio options in JR 18.

It must surely be either something very simple, or the driver installation is bad?

sorry, used to have one installed can't really help .. worked perfectly after driver update, (I remember forgetting something stupid in Windows, but I'm sure you are past that one) ... also seem to remember messing with the output sample rate but doubt that's an issue for you

I'm sure someone will post their DSP settings, its probably something simple

I have a sinking feeling now   --- either drivers corrupted, or the card is bad .. no one else has this issue! Nothing on Google!

Yes, I went to sounds, set to 192kHz and clicked on the speakers (is that what you mean?). So that means that the card will play 192? Also, clicking on a speaker in the Xonar control panel is successful at 192.

As understand it, ASIO takes control and bypasses all the Windows stuff AND the settings in the Xonar control panel (which is set to PCM, 192kHz, 24 bit).

It is not J River causing it, is it, so I do appreciate your reply.

Any hints or guesses will be grabbed at this point ..... and don't assume that I know, necessarily what I'm doing, I just read lot!  What could I possibly have missed?

  Like Jim said ... check control Panel/Sounds in windows and test 'em

What I did was set up output device as default which had been "disabled" and consequently was hidden   pretty stupid, I know

OK, making some progress here.

Following advice from the UNI Xonar board ...


Last night I tried WASAPI in J River - it works! Also checked that the device was set to speakers (it was).

So, after playing several hi res tracks in WASAPI, I changed back to ASIO and it worked for one track only (at 192k) but would not play the next at 96k ....... seems that somehow the card is not responding to the frequency change?

Trying to close this one down now.

I completely de installed the UNI drivers, ran their driver cleaning batch file, stood on my head and whistled God Save the Queen softly.

Then, reinstalled the UNI driver in safe mode.

Result exactly the same - ASIO just doesn't work, but WASAPI does.

From my limited perspective, the sound card is not recognising anything better than 44.1 kHz where it seems to be stuck.

Does this make any sense?
