Like the title implies, im having a problem with video playback. I had no problem up until tonight, now whenever i open any game, tropico, bordlerands, the video stops playing on my second monitor. I tried to look through google and the search bar for about 3 hours but im so frustrated with trying different stuff that I am ready to give up. I load a game and the video stops playing frames, the audio continues but no video. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail.

Going to bed. Hopefully someone has a reply by the time I wake. I hope you all have a wonderful night.

Reinstalled removing all registry keys. Still stops during any gaming on the second monitor.

Tried switching the renderer to Red October standard, tried HQ, no avail.

As soon as I alt tab it starts moving frames again.

When I go back to the game it stops moving video frames. Audio still continues to run in the background.

Please can anyone even give me a suggestion?

Most games run video hardware in full screen exclusive (FSE) mode, so I don't think other 3d devices (EVR / madVR) playing video are going to work at the same time.

so what ive been doing for the last 3 month was impossible? then how was i doing it? the problem appeared last night when i was trying to remove a horizontal screen tear caused by turnign off aero (that alone took me hours.)

also vlc seems to do it just fine.

i can run any media on my off monitor no problem in vlc but when i turn on jrmc it stops playing frames as soon as i open another fullscreen application. why does vlc continue to work when jrivers doesnt?

Sorry, but I'm not sure how VLC renders video data.

MC uses EVR or madVR.

is there any way to return jrmc to its default setting because it used to work, now it doesn't. I just want to use the media player I payed for. I bought this application specifically because it can handle so many functions at once. It used to work, now it doesn't.

I just don't want to have to reinstall windows. That would be so much work, just to get a media player to function correctly.

Perhaps try an earlier version on MC.

Copy "http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v18/latest/MediaCenter180201.exe" to your Internet browser address bar but put in "180190" (or other version) in place of the "180201". That should (used to) download the earlier versions (.190 in this example).

It may have been an update/change in the programming on the newer version that is causing your problem.

I don't believe MC changed in this regard.

You mentioned it started when you disabled Aero, so maybe that's what changed?

no I had a screen tearing problem that came from disablign aero, after re-enabling aero that fixed the problem.

I will try to downgrade to an earlier version after while. so frustrated at this point im going to play wii-u for a while.

I'm trying to use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove it so I can start from the ground up again.

Then I will install an earlier version then update it through appropriate channels to see if that helps.

Try disabling hardware acceleration if you have it enabled, and exclusive mode if you are using madVR. (Red October HQ)
If that isn't working, try changing from Red October HQ to Red October Standard.

I did do it. Even tried installing an oldversion that didnt work either. registry is fine, but it did not fix the rendering issue i have. i have tried Red October, both HQ and standard, and I dont know what exclusive mode is. I am currently uploading a video from my phone to dropbox, when it uploads ill post it here. It shows how VLC will run in fullscreen mode, but jrivers wont. Jrivers wont even play frames in window mode when i turn the focus to my game. this happens with any game.

I also reinstalled most recent stable amd drivers for my radeon HD7850.

Like I said above, I'm surprised it ever worked. I can't explain what might have changed to stop it working.

And since old builds of MC no longer work either, it sort of rules out it being an MC change.

You could try other video renders with Options > Video > Custom video mode (Haali, VMR, etc.). Maybe one will do something different.

setting mode to only haali would give me screeching audio on some of my files, other than that it had no change.

Still having the same issue, I love jrivers for the media library and smartlist and want to keep using the program. I just don't know where to go from here. Is there a better help forum? Anywhere where someone could suggest I get some help? This wasn't a problem a week ago now it won't work at all. Having a video player that stops playing video isn't very useful at all.

I'll try and get some testing done here if possible. The issue for me is that my card only has a mini HDMI and two DVI outputs, and I'm not sure that I have any DVI to HDMI cables or adapters lying around.
I'm glad I checked your video though, because I was about to say that it was working fine for me (with a single display) but then you mentioned that it only stopped the video when the game had focus and alt-tabbing fixed it.

Have you tried seeing whether running games in windowed mode affects this at all, or if the video is on the same display as the game in windowed mode? Those are things I can easily test here.

I tried a couple of games running in windowed mode, with the video playing in the background and it seemed to be playing just fine.
I'm redownloading Borderlands 2 on my Steam account to see if the problem is specific to that game. (it looked like that's what you were playing)

EDIT: Found a DVI to HDMI adapter - I should be able to test this in an hour or so.

Would this be as a result of one of MC's integrated DS filters updating?
Not sure if the uninstaller will purge these completely, especially when going back to an older version.

Uninstall using the JR installer (**MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR LIBRARY**), and then do this:
Start, Run:
appdata
Press enter
Double-click on Roaming, then J River
Delete all the files in this folder. THIS INCLUDES YOUR LIBRARY, SO BACKUP!

Now install an older version (I'd be trying ~150 as a decent starting point and then working my way upwards)
As a note, I'm not sure if MC will automatically pull the latest filters version down, or whether these are version specific (Matt?), but it's worth trying.

OK, managed to get some testing done.

Connected a second television to the PC as a secondary display, and tried out Borderlands 2, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, and Dyad. (just games I already had installed)
Tried out Fullscreen and Fullscreen Windowed modes in the games, and both Red October Standard & ROHQ, with hardware acceleration on/off in Media Center.

Video continued to play in the background all scenarios.
I do have Fullscreen Exclusive mode disabled in madVR though (check my guide if you need help with that) and I have manually updated madVR to 0.86.6, and LAV Filters to 0.58. (use the same method as described for madVR) I don't know if that makes a difference.

Good point, although the vague intent on my part was to keep it as simple as possible

I must say I haven't really investigated what's stored where with the integrated plugins, and whether there are any config files for these stored in with the rest of the library, so bulldozing the lot seemed the safest option!
