Thinking about upgrading, should I wait for MC 19
« on: June 30, 2013, 02:54:17 pm »

I've been running MC 17 since it came out 2 years ago and am thinking about finally upgrading.  I'm so late to the MC 18 party that I am wondering if I shouldn't just wait for MC 19?  I know 18 was released about a year ago and new versions tend to come out about 1 per year.  I also know there is a grace period in during which you let recently purchased licenses from the previous version upgrade to the newest version.   I'm just wondering if there's any word yet on when that will start?

MC 18 is almost perfect now. Now is the time to switch to it. If you jump on MC19 on day one, you'll find tons of bugs and revisions are needed before its stable (assuming 19 is like the builds for 17 and 18). I would wait until the build is around version 100+ before switching to it if you want stability. But if you're like me and you want to be a part of the testing and exploring of new features (and maybe have one of your own suggestions implemented), then get on board early.

Best of both worlds.  Get MC 18.0.206 from the download page.  When you purchase, you will get an MC19 license that will work with both.  Early versions of MC19 won't be available for a couple months and won't be too different even then.

Get stuck in.

Keep your old, mature version as fall back and then run with the cutting edge. As JimH says, it's the best of both.

Thanks, that's exactly what I want to do, just didn't know if the grace period had started yet.
