Sound problem
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:46:50 pm »

Just downloaded 18 and when I try to play files it sounds like crap compared to any of the previous versions I have had (been with jriver since version 8 - it is the best).  I am currently running 14 and it sounds great.  I tried to make all the sound settings and DSP settings exactly the same but it still will not play properly.  Do I need to uninstall 14 to run 18?  I am just running onboard sound with Direct sound nothing fancy but that is what I have always used without issue.  I am running Win7 64bit.  If I can't get this sound situation fixed up then I might request a refund on this new version.  Any help would be appreciated.

Can you be more specific?

What exactly does "sounds like crap" mean? Are you getting pops and clicks during playback?
If you are running Windows 7, WASAPI is the recommended output method.

Sounds like crap means it has about a 3rd of the volume and a lot more distortion.  When I try and use the wasapi driver the program immediately crashes windows to a blue screen I have tried this several times with the same result.

Blue screens generally indicate a hardware or driver problem. You should check to see that everything is up to date.

As far as I know everything is up to date my onboard sound is not wasapi that I know but version 14 works awesome. I don't know why version 18 would be any different the same settings are on both for all sound options including DSP

Try toggling the WASAPI settings.

Tried that each time it crashes computer.
Then you have a hardware or driver problem with your computer.

My version 14 uses the direct sound option and works excellent with the same settings in version 18 it doesn't sound as good.  I can understand if the wasapi isn't working that I may have a driver issue but I am not trying to use it anyway I would think it should sound the same as the previous version if I am using the same output method and DSP settings.

If it works in 14 but not in 18, then the settings must be different.

Try reinstalling and re-selecting your sound device.

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled same thing continues.  I noticed in 14 I can select my bitdepth and sample rate under output format in DSP this option is not available in 18 or it is somewhere completely different perhaps this has something to do with it otherwise everything appears to be the same.

Bitdepth is under Audio settings.  By default, it's set to automatic.
