I just bought this software and a couple things seem weird.
1. Nothing seems to have happened to free version I originally downloaded.
2. There seems to be no recognition that I purchased the license to use the various tools.
for instance...my main thing is to turn songs I've created on CD into MP3s and be able to send them via email.  What is the best way to do that?  I don't seem to be able to access tools that allow me to manipulate a music file.

If you purchased it, you should be able to see your status in MJ under Help/Registration info.

If not, please post your system info from MJ Help.
