Author Topic: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1950 - MC19 doesn't detect STB output channel or S-Video  (Read 8034 times)

I'm trying to get my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1950 to work with the latest build of MC19, and the drop-down box for the device channel is always empty. The S-Video output also is not detected at all.

Am I doing something wrong? I've set the STB channel to 4, but it doesn't appear in the list.

If you do an analog channel scan on the device (using "Cable" as tuner type), will you get SVideo?

MC should automatically find the input channels of a device, and also automatically add Channel 3 and Channel 4 in the list if the device has an analog tuner.

Analog scan finds no channels at all.

When I started MC 19 this time and configured the tuner, the second dropdown now had values, the composite output and the S-video output. However, I still couldn't get a picture using either one. The Hauppauge WinTV application works fine, so I assume I have everything set up correctly in the tuner itself.

What happens when you try to play a channel?  Just black screen?  If you right-click in the video window, do you see a "DirectShow filters" submenu?  Go in there and see what kind of filter graph is there.

The TV Channels box contains SVideo and Composite video lines at the bottom of the channel list.  What happens if you choose to play the line directly?

I get an error message in the Setup wizard that says I haven't selected a channel. It won't go any further.

I get an error message in the Setup wizard that says I haven't selected a channel. It won't go any further.

Sorry, there seems to be some misunderstanding here.  I thought you had already passed the stage of setting up channels, and were just unable to show the TV programs on the channels.

At the beginning you had trouble setting up the STB channels, which required you to select an input channel on the device.  Now we do have those input channels (SVideo, Composite) right?  My question was if you double-click on the SVideo (assuming it is the input line you connected the STB to), would you get any video?

I get this error message:

No television tuner is available to fulfill your request. Please make sure you have a device that is not in use.

Is it possible that I need to uninstall Hauppauge's WinTV program for MC to work with the device?

That was the solution, I had to uninstall WinTV for the tuner to work in MC 19. Unfortunately, the picture is not as good in MC.

Thanks for your help.

Try the Video settings in MC.  Try both Red October settings.

I'm already using LAV and madVR. Are there better settings for live TV?

If you have set up your own LAV and madVR, that won't affect MC.  You could read about Red October on our wiki.

The problem I'm having with the TV quality is extreme combing. I don't get that in the Hauppauge WinTV 7 application.

There were a couple of reports recently of WinTV preventing MC from working.  I don't remember the details, but you could try a search.

One of them was mine. It was the WinTV scheduler that runs whether WinTV is open or not. Disabling it allowed MC to access the hardware.

In any case, I had the same picture problems in MC when I uninstalled WinTV. All I can figure is that WinTV applies some decombing that MC doesn't.

I should be able to make some changes based on the info you posted.  Hopefully it will improve the video quality.

jkauff, please install the latest MC19, then download the following

JRTelevision DLL.  Unzip and copy the dll into MC19 installation folder.  Let me know how it works.

That did it! Picture quality is as good or better than WinTV now. Nice work!

Great.  The video was rendered using older, inferior method because another user (long ago) was not able to view video when the newer method was used.  I now switched back to the better method, and hope that user will not have problem with it.
