MC19 interferes with sound of Pinnacle 15 software
« on: November 09, 2013, 06:58:23 am »

HI there,

Since installing MC19, when I use Pinnacle Studio 15, I can no longer hear sound of my videos when MC19 is installed.  MC19 says at the top "IPC Opening" and i hear nothing.

If I uninstall MC19, everything works.  There were some other posts regarding the asio driver but no way to resolve the issue.

This appears to be a bug in MC19 that needs to be resolved.

Is it trying to send audio to Media Center's ASIO driver? Try changing the audio output in Pinnacle Studio.

Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, there is no option to control the audio output in Pinnacle Studio.

As such, there needs to be another way to do this via MC.

I am still having this issue.

I am unable to hear any sound when using pinnacle.

Pinnacle does not have any controls for where to output sound.

I am unable to hear any sound in MC19 when it says IPC open in the Player.

Thus, MC19 has in essence BROKEN Pinnacle.

While the ASIO driver is supposed to be an improvement, it is NOT in my case.  Is there a way to uninstall this driver or disable it?

It is a hassle to have to UNINSTALL MC19 everytime I need to edit a video in Pinnacle.

Are you using WASAPI Exclusive?  That's what you would expect if so.

Does WMP behave any differently than Pinnacle?

Did you try an Internet search to see if you could find any similar problems with Pinnacle?  I don't think this is an MC problem.

How can you say it is not an MC10 problem?

While "technically" it might not be a MC problem, it is ironic that the issue appears when I install MC19 and disappears if I uninstall it.  The issue never arose with MC18 and appears to be related to your new AISO driver (from posts that I read).

Please don't pass the buck...  add in a method to remove this driver... or at least tell me how to get this IPC to actually play sound in MC19.

what driver? an asio driver? I don't understand.  You say here that:

Audio Device in MC19 is set to Default Audio Device (direct Sound)
direct sound is not loading an asio driver?? dirty sound right off the mobo - if there are dirvers loaded they're from an external program or device (correct me if I'm wrong of course)

try setting the audio device to wasapi and not direct sound. What happens?

I have tried every possible audio setting and I do not get sound from pinnacle.

This occured once I installed MC19 and resolves itselfd once I uninstall it.

there were changes between 18 and 19 - what is the "pinnacle" file extension that you are importing to jrmc for playback? I presume it is a video file and the vid plays but no audio?

anyway just double check please a wasapi config see attached screenshot (assuming you are not loading asio4all separately or some other plugin)

thanks for the reply I will test it out.

The issue is NOT that I am trying to import any files into MC19.  The issue is that when MC19 is installed, I am unable to use Pinnacle because the sound is muted.  MC19 pops up and say IPC Opening but I am still unable to hear anything.

For now I uninstalled MC19 and reverted to MC18 as I will be going out of town for a few days and my kids need to edit some video.  The  moment I uninstalled MC19, the sound worked perfectly in Pinnacle.

Thanks

It sounds like Pinnacle is playing to the ASIO driver named 'Media Center 19'.  You should be able to change this in Pinnacle to point to a different ASIO driver.  If you don't have another ASIO device, maybe you never got sound before?  In this case, you could install ASIO4All and point Pinnacle to that.

Since there's no such thing as a 'default' ASIO driver, it wouldn't make sense to do ASIO output and not let a user pick the ASIO driver.

There is NO way to point Pinnacle to a different ASIO driver. I had sound working well for several years.  Everything STOPS working when MC19 is installed and works perfectly when MC19 is removed.

Hi,

I had the same problem with Studio 14. After some research I found a method (published by Avid/Pinnacle)
to force Studio 14 to ASIO output. Unfortunately, there is no possibility to do that via the GUI.

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/troubleshooting/en216989?popup=true

Its a bit tricky to find the right settings.ini file. On my machine (Win7) it worked like this:
/users/public/public documents/Pinnacle/ProgramFiles x86/Pinnacle/Studio/Programs/Sites/.../Settings

... stands for Computer Name

Edit the file settings.ini (e.g. with Notepad, normally a double click is sufficient) and add the following:

[ASIOIO]
SEL_DEVICE_SZ=00000000-0000-0000-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00

Save the file and the restart Studio xx

That should do it

Good luck

Since build 87, there is also the option to disable the ASIO driver via:

Tools → Options → General → Features → ASIO Driver
