failed to connect video decoder to source/splitter
« on: November 16, 2013, 06:22:42 pm »

In searching for a solution, I've seen this problem posted here several times before, and it never seems to be answered. But I'm hoping someone will be able to help...

I recently (finally!) took the time to digitize my dozen or so remaining VHS tapes. And I'd like to be able to view them in MC. (They work fine in VLC.) But when I try to load them, MC downloads something and asks me to restart MC. Then I get the following error:
"failed to connect video decoder to source/splitter"

I'm not sure what information I should provide that would be helpful. Here is the "codec information" for one of the files as displayed by VLC:

Stream 0
- Type: Video
- Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (H264)
- Resolution: 640x480
- Frame rate: 29.970000
- Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Stream 1
- Type: Audio
- Codec: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3 (mpga)
- Channels: Stereo
- Sample rate: 48000 Hz
- Bitrate: 320 kb/s

I would really like to be able to view these in MC if someone can help.

Does toggling Red October Standard vs HQ in Options > Video help?

If not, could you provide a sample video to hendrik (at) jriver [dot] com and include a link to this thread?  Try Dropbox or Google Drive if the file is large.

Thanks.

I emailed hendrik a sample video file as requested. No reply. Is there an update to this?

Hi - while you wait for Hendrik do you have a link to a small sample (happy to test).
THanks

Are you just using RO / ROHQ or for some reason using the Advanced --> Custom or Windows Merit option...or anything else that is "special" about your setup?

EDIT - what is MC Downloading each time?

also do any other video files cause you issues?

It doesn't work on either of my computers in MC, either in RO or ROHQ, with or without HW Accell. Everything seems to be set at the defaults, I really don't watch vids in MC much so I've never messed with it.

Yes, other AVI files that I have created cause the same problem, yet play fine in VLC, etc.

Also, MC isn't downloading anything any more. I guess that was just the first time I tried opening one of these files in it. But I don't know what it downloaded at that time.
