Media Center 19 has stopped working [Solved]
« on: December 21, 2013, 06:04:28 pm »

I just got a new workstation desktop a day ago.  With the new system, I upgraded to MC19.  My old MC18 had no issues.  However, with MC19 I am getting this during an auto import:

Any ideas on what went wrong here?  This is a new desktop, so I have to re-import everything from my NAS.

There was a bug that was causing Media Center to crash when importing ogg files in older versions.
Try updating to the latest version (19.0.96) and see if that helps.

I auto updated to the latest version.  I then closed the program to re-try.  Same issue.

If you are using auto-update, make sure you are on the latest channel.

Or you could download it from the topic I linked to above.

Uninstall your antivirus program if you're using one.

I tried again with no changes.  It completed on its own.  The only virus program I run is Microsoft's free security essentials.

I am currently (re) analyzing 11,987 audio files...

MC19 has a limit of analyzing 8 files concurrently.  Is there any chance of this limit being raised?  If it could analyze more files at once, I would be done faster.  My hardware can handle it, and it is an option.  Others could keep it lower if their hardware cannot.

You might find that you're being I/O limited with 8 files at once.

In most cases, three audio files per drive seems optimal on my system as that lets my CPU work at 100% load without being impacted by disk access. As I increase the number of files being analyzed, CPU usage drops lower and lower.

I do wish that Media Center would spread out the disk access if you are analyzing files from multiple drives at once though. If I'm analyzing files across four drives, it should try to assign a drive to each CPU core rather than doing all the files from C:\ first, then D:\, E:\, and so on.
