Why can't MJB open files from the last used directory?

When I open files, it usually starts the open-dialogue in another directory than the last one I opened from. Re-using the last directory is sort of the norm in most other programs (when the program hasn't been closed in between, in which case many programs revert to a default directory setting). What is the reason for this? Anybody?
