Why have I got a new folder that contains loads of mp3s such as:

C:\Users\me\Music\JRiver Conversion Cache\artist\album\name.mp3

maybe you have set the conversion cache in options>file location> conversion cache? I think it can be used when you upload to some handheld (for instance).

When you sync to a handheld, MC can convert (FLAC to MP3, for example).  If you have a conversion cache, MC will save the files there, so it doesn't have to convert each file every time you load the handheld.   This makes the process much faster.

Sorry I don't understand.
The files have been copied (synced?) to the handheld [my phone]. Sure it is not going to start re-converting every time I load the handheld.
When I play the files on the phone there is no process between handheld and MC - is there?
I don't want to accumulate a mass of converted mp3s on my c:\drive.

You can turn it off.  Search for "cache" in the window at the bottom of the options page.

I wish to create/keep a complete set of mp3 files for all mt FLAC files,

Can I use this feature to accomplish & maintain this?
If so, how can I integrate the existing mp3 files to be part of the cache so I do not need to re-convert those?

I seem to be achieving little or no success with this Gizmo.
It seems that Gizmo will be useless to me.
Every step of the way so far has been full of frustrations.
I thought I could listen to tracks on my phone from my MC library on my home PC.
To get it to work in the first place took several tries (and help) over a period of days.
It then suddenly worked. Cannot understand why Gizmo didn't behave on first attempt.
Then, over a couple of afternoons Gizmo consumed my full monthly data allowance for my phone.
I wasn't prepared for this and as you can imagine it put me to great inconvenience for the remainder of the month.
Suggestions have been to pre-load a 10 item playlist. That failed
Alt suggestion to sync a playlist before I leave home.
Well yes that is all well and good but that merely Copies files from PC to Phone card.
...and I now discover, unbeknown to me, it duplicates all my music in a secret conversion cache.
I wondered why my system backup image grew so much.
Since deleted conversion cache.
I can, and do, copy music files across to my phone myself without gizmo’s hindrance.
As one of the marvellous MC helpers said “..its probably not for you at this time.”

You're better off creating your own copy by using a virtual handheld w/the conversion profiles you want.

In my opinion, it would be more trouble than its worth to try to copy the existing cache files to this new HH conversion location.  Just delete and disable the cache, and do a full HH sync sometime this evening.
