Cannot play mp3 from CDBaby
« on: February 06, 2014, 03:32:46 pm »

Yesterday I bought a song on CDBaby.com. It is an mp3
The weird thing is I cannot play this file with MC, but with a very simple program like IrfanView it is no problem at all to play it.

What might be the cause of this?

Bump... Anybody, please?
Problem is not just with MC. I've tried to play it with Windows MediaPlayer too and that didn't succeed either.
Again: it does play with IrfanView.

If it can't play in Windows Media Player either, this might indicate some problems with the file.  Can you make the file available for me to test/examine?

Sure I'd like to do that! What/how/where do I do that?

If you can Dropbox it and PM the link, that would be great.

If you can load it in MC, try removing any album art and remove the tags.  Something is probably corrupt.

No, that's the funny part: it isn't even shown in the Drives/Devices - Explorer part of MC.
I've uploaded the file to MrC. Maybe he can find out why/what.

Mark,

Your file is a Zip file.  Change the suffix to .zip, and unzip it.  You'll find the MP3 inside along with a text file and a jpg image.

You've got to be kidding! Boy, do I feel stupid :-)
I guess when downloading the song I renamed the original name to my .mp3-name, without looking what the original extension was.

That probably explains why IrfanView could play it: it unzipped it before playing.

Thanks a lot, MrC

No problem.  VLC, MplayerX, and QuickTime also have the unzip/play feature.
