I launch JRiver into Theater View.
Play a song and it enters Display View
Alt tab to another application or desktop.
Screen saver does not come on.

Is "Options | Theater View | Behavior | Disable screen saver in Theater View" checked?

Yes it is checked. But when I ALT-TAB to the desktop I'm no longer in Theater View; I'm looking at my desktop!

I just checked again and actually I don't have it checked.
Anyway when I'm ALT-TABing back to the desktop from JRiver I'm doing it from Display View rather than Theater View and I expect the screen save to come.

I imagine that Theater View stops the screen saver when it is running even if it doesn't have focus/isn't on "top". I guess they could add a check for that but it seems like it would be more common for people to exit out of Theater View when not using it rather than Alt-Tabbing to another program. As to why it would prevent the screen saver if you don't have that option checked, I don't know. You definitely get the screen saver when MC is not running?

Thanks for your reply but as I posted previously, JRiver is actually in Display View <CTRL-3> and not Theater View <CTRL-4> when it prevents the screen saver.
Yes I definitely get the screen saver when MC is not running and I'm pretty sure I get it in Theater View too.
I think there's nothing unique about this behaviour (Display View preventing the screen saver) and that it works this way for everyone; and it's not a good way if I might add.

Sorry, I missed the bit about being in Display View. I get the same behavior. It might have something to do with not wanting to interrupt full screen video because if I click the "restore" button to make Display View not full screen then the screen saver does activate.

It seems like intentional behavior to prevent the screensaver when Media Center is playing media in fullscreen mode.

Even if you have moved it into the background with alt-tab, it's still playing media fullscreen. (it could be on a second monitor, which is why the MC window is not selected, for example)

I think if it's on the main monitor (especially when you have only 1 monotor in my case and it's a plasma TV) and it's minimised or focus lost then it shoud allow the screen saver.

Yep, thanks for that.

I really don't want JRiver to indirectly cause my plasma TV damage and it's worrying me at the moment.

Is your Plasma connected via HDMI? Because MC will prevent the display from sleeping when connected via HDMI (I believe there's an option), which is good, because if your audio is going out that connection, playback stops.

If you are paused, that's the same as playing, and I can see why MC prevents sleep when paused.

Yes it is connected via HDMI, but there is no audio been being sent through it.
I'm pretty sure my TV is configured not to sleep anyway.
I'm starting to think that the reason this thread is being ignored is because what I ask is in the "too hard basket"
