Audio path blu ray shows 48/24 "padded"
« on: February 15, 2014, 08:51:31 am »

Is this an indication that the audio is not 48/24 but likely 48/16 and padded to be 48/24 output?

No, its just an indication that for output the 24-bit needs to be padded to 32-bit, which is rather common over HDMI, for example.

I had pushed Matt into making this change, because I wanted to know what my hardware was doing - whether it was outputting a 24-bit signal, or a 24-bit signal padded to 32-bit.

However, this seems to have caused confusion more than anything else, as the question seems to pop up at least once every week or two.

I wonder if it would be best to change the label back to "24-bit" or something more descriptive than "24-bit padded"
