Replay Gain
« on: February 23, 2014, 01:57:51 pm »

Greetings:

For a while now, when I analyze audio files the programs determines the number that have not been analyzed, and goes through it analyse however every "newly" processed file returns a 0db or -db.  Any ideas why.  Do I need to change something to have it apply a proper value?

Thanks

Start here:

then take a look at this stuff:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Replay_Gain
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Replay_Gain_Adjustment

It's all about characterising audio so that, if you select the relevant aspects in DSP Studio, MC will adjust the gain (i.e. volume) automatically, so you don't have to for audio that's been mastered loud or soft. This process doesn't alter the audio file at all, which is why many prefer it over doing a "Normalise" where the audio file is actually altered. The advantage is that if you put various lists together, the overall gain will be different between lists. RG allows this manipulation to occur without you lifting a finger.

I would recommend let the analysis process continue. You don't need to do any readjusting. Have a look at DSP Studio, check Volume Levelling and review the settings. Have a listen and see whether you like what you hear. If you don't like it, then check it off.

Some additional discussion here that's relevant to your version of MC:

Note that MC19 has even better implementation of RG and volume management:

It's a pretty cool improvement.

All the best ..  ;)
