There have been a couple of posts on MC's support of these so I though I would start a thread in how they work with MC and reviews of the discs themselves.

High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray HFPA is encoded as 24-bit/96 kHz or 24-bit/192 kHz linear PCM, optionally losslessly compressed with Dolby True HD or DTS-HD Master Audio.  These discs are basically normal BD's but with a selection of high quality audio tracks but without any "video" (but typically a cover art as the video).  Unlike previous attempts at releasing a high quality audio format, this time it the "High Fidelity Pure Audio Group" lead by Universal (whose labels include HMV, Decca, Verve and Philips) has Warner, Sony and many others on board.  Who knows if this goes the way of SACD, DVD-A etc.... but it is another potential source of High Def audio for those that care!

HFPA and MC:  MC see these and plays disks as any other Blu-ray so you can:
- Rip the Disk to your HDD
- Use Particles to divide the BD into individual songs (just like a CD) and then tag the tracks.  Unfortunately until Particles can be generated from Chapter Info this is a PITA.
- Extract the Audio to other formats (eg, FLAC, MP3 etc)

Stuff to be aware of:
- As with all BD's there is no menu support so you will not know what track you have by looking at the Coverart Video as the discs use the Menu to paint a Track Name and Audio Details over the top - see the pic for an example of what it looks like in MC vs with Full Menus (but of course you can see these details by bringing up a MC OSD)
- When ripping MC will try to use "Get Movie and TV Info..." as it is tagging the disc as a "Movie" so in general this will not bring back any details about these discs (see the link above how to do this manually).
- Of course just because it is in High Def formats.... does not mean that the source or mastering is up to scratch!
- The concept is not new and there have been released like this before from individual studios, and even from the similarly named Pure Audio
- You also get a "Digitial Download" as part of your purchase - http://hifipureaudio.pushexp.com/welcome/ that could be either an FLAC or MP3 (but I've only seen MP3's so far) - This is of little interest to us as we can covert the Audio straight from the BD into any format we want.

Hi.  I was wondering if there was an update to this useful post.  In the past, on a Mac, I've done the following:

1) use makemkv to create a disk image of the BD (or DVD-A) disk with copy protection removed
2) use DVD Audio Extractor ( http://www.dvdae.com/ ) to pull out the audio tracks and save as individual flac files.  This is a huge pain since many BluRay Audio disks have multiple sessions (e.g. stereo mix, multi-channel mix, vinyl copy, etc) and multiple versions of each of those (MLP, PCM, DTS, etc).

I didn't realize that MC could do this itself (not sure if the Mac version did back when this was originally posted).  Is that the best way to do this?  Could I just keep the BD/DVD-A rip as a single image file that MC parses like it does for SACD ISO image files?

Thanks for tips on the easiest way to do this!

What I'm doing is
1. Use MakeMKV to rip to a mkv file.  Trim out whatever I don't want.
2. MKVToolnix with a script to split the mkv into separate files (1 for each chapter/song).
3. Use TAudioConverter to extract the audio into flac files
4. Use MP3tag to rename and tag the resulting files.

Sorry David - Missed your post

If you have the BD already ripped and imported in your MC Library you are pretty much right to go.  MC will let you create Title Particles to see which one(s) you want to chapterise.  You can do this by Hand (not a lot of fun) - http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Particles or use one of the 3rd Party Utils such as in the first post of [urlhttp://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=100449.0]this thread[/url] if you are doing it on Mac, Unix, Windows.  I've also written a Windows only util to do it as well here.  Both will not only create chapter based particles but will also grab any meta data for you from ChapterDB.  Have a look at these threads.
