What's the easiest way to completely delete tracks and playlists including the hidden records that normal delete leaves behind, such that I can then reimport my updated playlists?

This is to avoid the MC problems affecting Library Import used to update existing playlists.

Thanks.

Which part of this info works / doesn't work for you?

Deleting files from your library permanently removes additional information associated with the files such as Playlist affiliations and play count.

See pic. The delete options read clearly to me.

I wasn't aware that there's some latent data/meta-data retained. Where's that metioned anywhere?

What's the library import problem you're having. What additional detail can you offer?

This is what you're looking for, chris:

Thanks G, but that fails on playlists. E.g.

1) Ensure Options '[] Run auto-import in background' is uncheckmarked
2) Ensure a smartlist named Deleted items is defined as ~d=r ~sort=[Filename]
3) Use File, Library, Import... to import some playlists, and verify Import Summary reports files imported
4) In Playlists, delete all playlists except Deleted items
5) In Audio, delete all tracks
6) In Deleted items, delete all entries
7) Use File, Library, Import... to reimport the same playlists: http://i.imgur.com/ZaEoo5b.png

Desired: Import Summary reports files imported.
Observed: Import Summary reports no files imported: http://i.imgur.com/Zz5XU8B.png

Clear. And wrong. This
Code: [Select]
Delete All Media Files from Library

To remove all media file entries from your library go to File > Library > Clear Library.
This does not delete the disk files, but just removes all associations to these files from your current library.

is false. Hidden entries remain, and they prevent reimport.

I wasn't aware that there's some latent data/meta-data retained. Where's that metioned anywhere?

It gets mentioned each time someone reports the reimport failure in this forum. :) If JRiver ever get around to writing a user guide, I hope it will be mentioned there too.

What's the library import problem you're having. What additional detail can you offer?
