audio problem with MC19
« on: April 09, 2014, 09:54:55 am »

I am a new user and have gone through the set up process over and over and cannot solve an audio problem. I am using an Asrock Vision 3D-137B HTPC playing WAV files and has the Realtek HD audio. I am using the 5.1 analog outputs directly to a 6 channel power amp and then to 5 speakers and a sub. The system works fine (in 5.1) doing the windows sound test or if I use WMC. Once I set up MC19, it seems the level of the 5 main speakers is reduced somewhat and sub is almost muted (except for a barely audible muffled and distorted sound). I have made sure all the room correction and effects are turned off in the Realtek sound manager and have tried almost every combination of sound output (default, direct, wasapi, ...) on the MC19 as well as different bass management options. The only way MC19 seems to sound "normal" is in 2 channel stereo. I am on my trial period now and would really like to make this work in order to go ahead and purchase it. Help please?

Not sure what you meant by this:

I am a new user and have gone through the set up process over and over and cannot solve an audio problem.

But if you haven't already, please refer to:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Setup

As long as you are using WASAPI in Exclusive mode (you should be), it doesn't matter (at all) what the Realtek junk is set to in Windows, as that isn't used.  Also, make sure you are running the most up-to-date Realtek drivers, which are EXTREMELY UNLIKELY to be the ones on the website of your motherboard's manufacturer.

If you've finished that, we'll need to know more about what settings you've tried.  The defaults should work quite well (if you follow that guide) with Realtek onboard audio.  You may want to tweak the bass level and things like that (either via EQ or Room Correction in MC), but it shouldn't be awful.

What I meant was I did follow the set up instructions ...on numerous attempts and still cannot solve the problem of the sub being almost muted with only a faint garbeled sound. The Realtek HD audio driver is version 6.0.1.6662
