Author Topic: MC 19 & Downloader as used by HDTracks are mutually exclusive  (Read 1076 times)

I just purchased MC 19 in mid-April (2014) for the expressed purpose of listening to HD audio files.
On-line media indicated JRiver's MC was an excellent player for that purpose & that HDTracks was
a good source for the purchase of HD audio files.

Upon installation MC worked fine & played any of my existing music in both MP3 format & some
I had ripped in FLAC.  The trouble began when I purchased my first album from HDTracks & was
unable to download the files.

I requested Support from HDTracks & the tech sent a link that provided the Downloader,
which upon installation did download the purchased album.

But then I noticed the desktop icon for MC had changed from the round "player" look to the
square HDTrack icon; & MC would no longer function - attempted launch produced an error message.

After several email exchanges with HDTracks not resolving the problem I dug deeper into the Downloader
& found it's digital certificate was from JRiver, not HDTracks & the tech confirmed the program did
originate with JRiver.  He than - pointedly - "suggested" I take up any further support issues with JRiver.

I was able to ping-pong back & forth between multiple re-installations of the two programs, i.e. when I installed
Downloader the MC program would not function.  And when I than re-ran the MC installer, MC would function
but not Downloader.  I ran thru several iterations of this process & it was repeatable in each case.

Currently I've left MC as functional but it's somewhat an orphan without additional HD music tracks, which I
will not purchase from HDTracks without a (simultaneously) working Downloader.

My pc is fairly high end (I'm a hard core gamer) so I don't believe the problem is a lack of capacity;
Win 7 Ultimate - 64 bit;  Intel i7-2700 @ 3.5 GH ; 8 GB DDR 3 ; GeForce GTX 590;  Creative SB X-Fi.

And I use a variety of media download systems without any difficulties as I'm experiencing here -
i.e. for games - STEAM & ORIGIN; music = AMAZON & iTunes & even CASA MUSICA (German music site).

Would be most appreciative of any assistance from the community in resolving this issue.

It should work fine to have both installed, but we'll test again.

MC has an HDtracks store in the tree on the left.  It's under Services.  You could try using it to purchase.

I tested this scenario and didn't have any problems on my computer.

I wonder if there's some component that is hung and still running in the background that's causing one or both programs to fail.  Please try rebooting the computer and then re-install both MC and the downloader and see if it helps.
