Locked out of Media Jukebox
« on: February 15, 2002, 05:50:29 am »

Jim wanted me to use a subject that describes the problem, so I hope this is better. Anyway, as I said in my other post, I downloaded the ver. 205 beta the other day, installed it and it worked okay. It gave me a message that I had 28 days left in the trial period, which is about right. Then today, I downloaded and installed the ver. 206 beta, and as soon as I restarted the program, it immediately locked me out, saying that my 30 day trial period was over. This is not very funny at all. Great program, but why would it lock me out after downloading ver.206, and what if anything, can I do to fix this problem?

Terry

did you uninstall mj 8.205 then install the next beta?

or did you install directly over 8.205?

if you did a complete uninstall that may be the problem (just a guess)

another one may be if you adjusted your system date. MJ may have a sub in it to see if the user is adjusting the date to take advantage of a longer trial time.

King,
For the first question you asked, the answer is, I just installed over the top of ver.205, using the search for updates feature in MJ. As for the setting the date back on my computer? no, not hardly, not only would that be unethical,(which by the way I'm not), it would also wreak total havoc on the 50 gazillion program files I have installed on this little box of mine. Besides which, back a couple of months ago, Jim sent me a t-shirt, jes cause I asked him to(such a nice guy. I respect the company and it's ideals too much for that.

I wonder if the new beta when installed does somthing to the date then.

I guess that would be something they should check out.

I wonder if a user ran version 5, 6, 7 that they could run mj8 for 30 days or does that also lock them out.

I would think it should let them use it for 30 days

I would think maybe a better way youd to not allow rip's and burns, but also limit 100 mp3's in the data base and continue to allow play only

I have the same problem with the new build...

Version 5-6-7 were never locked, only a few features were locked. (like DSP).
I think it should return to version 7 idea.
