OK, had a look this morning.
If I delete an album, which in my case is a folder, and re-import it, it straight away shows the generic red camera icon.
If I browse to the location using Windows Explorer, do a right click and Open With...
Right click on one of the files from with MC and do
Locate > On-Disk (External)This should open Windows Explorer and highlight the file in question, to make sure you are choosing the actual files that MC's database is pointing to. If MC gives you an error, that will be our best clue as to what is happening, but just verify that it passes the smell test here.
Then, assuming that just worked the same as finding them manually, select a few of the broken files in your view, and choose
File > Export Playlist.
Set the dialog that results to:
Filename and Location: Somewhere you can find it easily.
Store paths relative: Unchecked
Format: MPL
Included Fields: All Fields
Output Range: Selection(Make sure to get that last one, or it'll export a giant MPL file with all of the files in your view.)
Then, post the resulting MPL file here so we can look at it. If you can also post copies of the example images from disk, it might help if something in the rendering engine is broken (it doesn't sound like it though from your description). If the stuff is too big to attach to the post directly, you can use
WikiSend to upload it and create a URL that expires in a few days.
