Suggestions on Use / Excluding Trailers
« on: June 16, 2014, 03:27:57 pm »

Hey Guys!

After using JRiver for a while, I've got a couple of questions which I couldn't find the answer for or that I wanted opinions on so thought I'd post.  Here they go...

Movie / Show Adding Procedure
I have formed a pretty standard procedure that I follow when not only adding media to my collection, but watching it.  With all the tools JRiver offers, sure;y there's a better way to do what I'm doing.  I wanted to post how I add / watch media and see what others may have to suggest.

My Setup
- "Media Server" Intel i7 / 16gb RAM / Windows 7 / x11 SATA hard drives
- x8 of the drives create 23tb pool (Drive Bender) / x1 ssd for OS / x1 hybrid for app installs / x1 for things I don't want pooled
- Rip DVD / Blu-Rays via drive or download purchased media then encode most to MKV format
- Plex Server exists on Media Server
- Pool has "- Media -" folder with following sub-folders which are also shared out via SMB
   - Movies
   - TV Shows
   - Documentaries
   - Concerts / Live Performances

How I Currently Add Media
- For movies, create a folder which includes title, year, and resolution then place in Movies share above
- For TV Show, have Show name folder and Season folders underneath which media files are placed in
- After sorting into folders, I run most TV Shows through FileBot to rename
- I scan all Movies / Shows with Media Center Master to gather all XBMC metadata.  Many documentaries (as well as other media)cannot be matched therefore not scraped  so I move them to other folders like the "Documentaries" one (wish I could scrape them, though)

Playing Media
- x1 XBMC (Gotham) Machine (Full mini-ATX Computer (i5 / 8gb RAM / SSD)) attached to main TV via HDMI - Runs Windows 8.1 - Also hosts MySQL database for XBMC
- x1 XBMC (Gothem - (Openelec)) Machine on Raspberry Pi
- Use Plex on x1 TV via Roku Channel plus all mobile devices as it's transcoder is excellent for given bandwidths

Any ideas / thoughts on how JRiver may make some of this better / easier?

How to Exclude Video Trailers
I've got a fairly large collection of Movies / Shows on my media server which I scan via Library Import.  Soon after getting them, I also scraped most in Media Center Master so many include trailers in the same folder as the main title.

For ones with trailers (most titles), they appear as duplicates in JRiver.  I haven't found out how to remove them / kepp them from being added yet, though.  If I could even tell JRiver not to add files under 200mb, that would be enough.  What am I missing?

Thanks guys!

I can't give you a comprehensive answer, but I'll try to give you a start.

You won't need to be so careful about folder naming with MC.  MC will keep your files organized if your tags are good.

Carnac can help import some files intelligently.  See the wiki for more.

Library Tools will let you name files by folder or organize by name.  Trying them is the best way to learn, but be careful to use a few test files first.

Auto import can use rules to do useful things.  Start at Tools/Import/Auto Import.  Add a folder and edit it.

And this will also help:
