expected FLAC got APE what have I missed
« on: June 17, 2014, 06:48:26 pm »

Looking for an alternative to windows media center I downloaded the trial of MC. Initial feelings are, looks great, seems easy enough to navigate so I put in  a cd and ripped it to what I thought was going to be a FLAC file but instead was an APE.  I've been ripping to windows media lossless but want to change. What have I missed?

You can pick the Encoder when ripping.  Lots of formats are supported.

I did that, which is why I'm scratching my head. Would it have anything to do with using an 8 yr old laptop?

No, the old laptop shouldn't matter.  Double-check the encoder setting.

I picked the file types in the initial set up and APE wasn't one of them. Do I need to pick a file type at the beginning of each rip?

Only need to choose once.

Very strange, I'll give it another try and see what happens

Thanks

Make sure you're not running in client/server mode (between two PC's).

Note that the format choice is only saved once you actually run a conversion, just changing it in the convert dialog and then closing it will not save it as it is right now.

There are several places in MC where you specify file types for specific purposes.

You specify the file type for ripping CDs from the Tools line on the main menu.  Click on Tools, then on Options, then on Encoding.  Then click on the down arrow beside the word "Encoder" and select Flac Encoder".

You may have specified one or more file type for importing files.
