JRiver will not play 24/192 or 24/88.2 FLAC files  on my DAC What I'm I doing wrong? 24/96 plays GREAT

Does your DAC support 24/192 or 24/88.2 sample rates?
If it is supposed to, have you installed a driver from the manufacturer, or are you using it in a "driverless" mode? (driverless UAC1 only supports up to 24/96)
 
If the DAC simply does not support these sample rates, you can configure the input > output sample rates in DSP Studio's Output Format section.

I'm using a Rega DAC with optical that supports these sample rates. The PC is a HP 64 bit operating system Window's 8.1

If it doesn't play, it means the selected output doesn't support it.  It's possible switching between ASIO and WASAPI in Options > Audio would make it work.

If you are using optical to Rega dac, i'm assuming you're using your PC's on board, or sound card. check to see if your computers sound card/or on-board sound supports these sampling rates.

The sound card I use supports all these samples. Could it be I am using the wrong driver ? With Media Monkey all worked fine. When I set 88.2 and 192 to 96 it works but defies the purpose.  Did try playing direct from the drive and all was the same as playing off of memory.

If those are multichannel files 192/24 won't work over optical.

Try what Matt suggested, start low and work your way up.

Are you sure? Most optical connections only support 24/96.

With Media Monkey all worked fine. When I set 88.2 and 192 to 96 it works but defies the purpose.

Were you using an exclusive output with Media Monkey, or DirectSound?
With DirectSound, everything runs through the Windows sound mixer and gets resampled to a format that your device supports.

Check the Sound Control Panel's advanced properties for the device to see which formats are supported.

I have a ASUS Xonar Essence ST card doing nothing. Will try that one out to see if works with JRiver and the Rega DAC

Are you sure? Most optical connections only support 24/96.

The Toslink standard says 2 channel 24/96 max but modern Toslink performs better than the standard.
I can even do 2ch 24/192 over Toslink

A simple test is using the Win audio panel, simply cycle through the sample rates and press Test

The Asus Xonar STX card plays all samples with  toslink  It  does kernel streaming also. Sounding KILLER
