Hi. I'm looking to switch away from the iPad and would ideally like the device to run MC when on the move. Any good suggestions?

To run MC, it would need to be a Windows Tablet. 

The Surface Pro would work.  I had one for a while, and I can't recommend it.  I wrote a little about it on the hardware board here.

A small laptop would work as well.

The Surface Pro 2 was improved over the original, and the third revision looks to be better yet.
I had the Pro 2 for a while but found that the touch screen was too inaccurate to work well for my needs.

However, there has been a lot of talk about improved accuracy on the new model, and there are changes that make it more usable as a laptop (which Jim was trying to do) so it is worth trying.
 
Ultimately, I ended up with another iPad (the Air) after the Surface Pro 2.
Even though I find it a very limited device, for the things that it can do, it does very well.

Thanks. The ideal would be a windows machine that has a large SSD to store wav music files while on the move. Would the audio hardware side have significant consequence on what comes out the headphone jack? Or would I just not be hearing the audio benefits of lossless music over mp3? Not sure I'd be going down the external USB DAC route, there's limited room in my work bag! But I guess there are slim USB to stereo jack DAC devices out there.

I use a Dell Venue 8 Pro with MC.
I have a couple FiiO DACs that I use with it.

Windows on a tablet is fine. MC on a tablet is good. I use a stylus a lot but it's not necessary.
I can't recommend Dell though. I would look at Lenovo and ASUS.

Micro SD cards are now up to 128GB which should hold a lot of music.
If you use FLAC, ape, or Apple Lossless instead of wav you will double the amount of music you can hold.
