I do not need video
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:51:10 pm »

Actually I do not need a video renderer on my MAC. I just want a perfect and rock stable audio playback software. No feature explosion, no gadgets etc. Just a stable and perfect audio playback software that outperforms all known other players (especially itunes). So PLEASE use all your programming power to just make the media player perfect and let it look like a real MAC program.
Thank you.

You can disable any features in MC you are not interested in, but video support is coming to MC20.

I, too, would prefer existing bugs to be killed before video is introduced to MC Mac.

+1

I'm actively supporting since the beginning and agree that audio has priority.
Thanks for all your efforts

Isn't audio already of the highest quality? Adding video shouldn't have a negative impact on audio quality anyways - as Hendrik said if you don't use/want video, just disable it!

Video support has no impact on audio quality.
Audio quality is already as good as it can be.

It's probably different people working on video (Hendrik) than audio anyway.

I do not think, that video has an impact on the audio playback quality at all. That is nonsense to my point of view. At least with this software. My intention for this statement/ posting is pretty simple and based on my personal knowledge concerning software development: A project always should focus on a reduced number of tasks / features before passing over to the next. And JRiver 19 still is not perfect or bug free. So why passing over to the next milestone (video playback) instead of fixing all the minor issues or bigger tasks like ripping or error free iTunes library import? The number of programmers is limited and JRiver has expanded to a LINUX and a MAC version. I do not think, that the number of software developers in this project also has tripled.
So again: I already bought the MC 20 license to support this project. Without knowing what kind of new features will be implemented or what open tasks will be closed. I do not care about new video features, to repeat myself. I just understand that the team needs to earn money to continue with work. But please focus on open audio tasks before jumping into new adventures like video playback. And make it more look and feel like a MAC program. That's all.

It is possible to do several things at once.  In fact, developers need a break from time to time.  Switching tasks helps.

We have ripping now.  You should see it in the next build.

Sounds like Mac MC 20 might be quite exciting with added video support, go for it.  8)

My interpretation/hope from the start of Mac OSX development was that some day (not necessarily V20) the mac and windows version would have equivalent features. I would be disappointed if it remained "audio only", just because it started out that way. I am really hoping it will become a "media center", as the name suggests.

I look forward to added video support. For my needs and in my system the audio quality is superb.

Just my two cents, FWIW.

Rock on JRiver...

That's ridiculous.

+1. I currently use MC on a Baetis Revolution, on an iMac, and a Mac mini. I have been testing through several builds the MC capabilities on my Macs, in the hopes that I can get to seamless support of DSD files, something that Apple remorselessly refuses to provide. I don't care if iTunes never plays DSD; it would just be nice if it would at least include them in its database management. MC does this with aplomb, and it is so cool to play those files from MC on any device. I say that as a confirmed Apple fan boy. When finally done, it means that I can dispense with multiple copies of albums just to account for the deficiencies of various platforms and programs.

There is zero reason to think that adding video support should be viewed as a negative. Much as I like the Baetis, the Windows interface sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise-all-Mac household. The SQ on the Baetis is excellent, but a little tweaking of a current Mac mini has rendered the difference unimportant. With the new mini on order, with all-flash storage, I expect the difference gap to become irrelevant. New speakers may change that of course. ;-)

But without rock solid video, it is very difficult to sustain the case for MC on the Mac platform. There are several bit perfect audio approaches already available that integrate nicely with iTunes and take advantage of iTunes' capable [on the Mac] file management. I need a single database & playback solution for audio and video, just like MC provides on Windows. I have tons of MKV files ripped from my BluRay discs, because I hate swapping discs on my Oppo. I have tons of audio files of AIFF and DSD. Right now, only one front-end promises to handle all of this. So, the fact that some people may not need video hardly makes the case for MC Mac remaining half the program on the Mac platform that it is on Windows. Especially with MC already providing bit perfect audio, it's about time to get video solved [that's not a complaint]. Otherwise, there really isn't much point.
