This is the first build with video support.
It requires
libgl1-mesa-glx (or equivalent)
to provide
libGL.so.1

I did NOT add this to the dependencies yet since there are a bunch of these libGL.so.1* some of which are supplied by manufacturers.

No idea of whether or not this will work on a 64 bit based distro.

I watched a 1080p .mkv fullscreen with only minimal cpu usage on my core 2 quad with ancient nvidia 8400 video card.

There is NO 3d support yet and no support for images in MC either...

libGL.so is often provided by the GPU driver, ie. on debian it could also be libgl1-fglrx-glx or libgl1-nvidia-glx for AMD and NVIDIA respectively, or the Mesa package bob named for all drivers using Mesa instead of their own.
Even on a headless system many distributions will install the mesa package to satisfy dependencies.

Also note that the video support is very early, and the majority of features will not work yet. You can import videos and watch them, however the watching experience is anything but pristine yet, but we're actively working on that over the coming weeks.
I'll create a new topic about the state of video features tomorrow, but its 11pm here.

Wow, way to go, not for the faint of heart, I'm sure.  Works on openSUSE Factory x86-64 with Mesa 10.3 (AMD HD6570) with OSS driver.  I get a strange flash every second or so with running KF5/Plasma5, but with regular old KDE 4.14, I do not see it.

FWIW, here the package is:  Mesa-libGL1-32bit

I know it's early days for video, but picked up a couple of things (that you probably already know about)...

1. I'm getting strobing when I watch in full screen. A white flash every couple of seconds.
2. Sound channels not mixing properly (i.e one of my vids has no centre channel sound on my stereo laptop).

Latest Intel drivers installed, running Sandybridge graphics on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit.

I get that flash too every second. I'm pretty sure it has to with our compositor using opengl too.

I am on Arch 64 bit, xfce4 with Compton compositor.

It used to do that for me, as if a background window stole the focus, painted itself on top, and then the video draws over it again.

Oke, I literally only had a minute to test because I had a train to catch, but when I disabled Compton and reverted to the default xfce4 window manager, I thought it was gone, that's why I thought that.

Yep, that's exactly what's happening.

I figured out why its happening, its because it tries to re-position itself as a proper fullscreen window, but the window manager limits the dimensions for the "task bar" on top, so it tries again a second later, and again, and again, and everytime it flashes.
It was on my list to implement a proper full-screen anyway, so guess thats what i'll do now! Stupid X window managers doing things behind the applications back......

Awesome!  I was able to play an AVI file on my Debian Jessie 64bit without installing any additional packages.  I experience the aforementioned flashing in full screen mode that sounds like it's already being addressed.

Also, I did the "detach window" feature which created an improperly scaled view of the video in the upper left hand corner.  This was a window with no borders or gadgets.  When I unchecked the box that said "show borders", nothing on the display changed, but right clicking on the video display no longer produced the context menu.

Also, in this case, I would have expected the parent MediaCenter window to be available, but it was not.

Great leap forward and a lot earlier than I was expecting.

Downloaded and installed the update manually. Ctrl+J / Check for Updates gave me a "there was a problem" response from 20.0.7 on Ubuntu 14.04 x64 / Unity. Does this function work in Linux yet?

Video is working fine here with no flicker, which is odd because I'm also on Arch with XFCE4 and Compton like Inflatable Mouse, so I figured I'd have it too.  Maybe because I replaced the XFCE window manager with Openbox? EDIT: I do see the white flash in Gnome on Arch, FWIW.

BTW am I supposed to be able to see the OSD in fullscreen?

My setup is a dedicated Intel NUC D54250WYKH with Wheezy 32bits with no gui (as it is described in the thread "MC without gui").
Audio files are stored on a Synology Nas and shared with NFS to the htpc.
I have an USB DAC Musical Fidelity vII that I set as default sound card in JRiver.

Everything is working fine with this setup and Mediacenter 20.0.7.

But problem comes with Mediacenter 20.0.13

Mediacenter crashed after few seconds (between 5-10 sec) in any case.

If I reboot my htpc I should see (meaning MC is working fine):
Total time: 4ms
Result: 0
 
Instead it shows the linux login prompt, meaning something went wrong.

If I try running MC manually from ssh -X session then I see the MC window, it looks fine when exploring menus and options but it finally crashes after few seconds.
It displays then:
Segmentation fault
I don't even have the time to run files importation. 

After several unsuccessfull  tries I reverted back to 20.0.7 and it is working as before!

Any ideas or suggestions?

You are still going to need libGL.so.1 even if you don't run the GUI since it's linked by libJRPlayer.so

I'd like to get that into the dpkg dependencies but I'm not quite sure how to do it since libGL.so.1.x can come from so many different packages....
Any linux packaging gurus have an idea on this?

I checked a few packages that have 3D dependencies, and thats whats found in their control file, so it must work..
Trying to list every possible vendor implementation would be insane, trust in debians virtual "libgl1" package, I suppose.

For the versions, just flow without any. OpenGL is designed to be very compatible, and we only directly link against functions present in OpenGL 1.x, which should be in every libGL.so on this planet.
All more advanced functions are looked up at runtime through OpenGL specific means, since its specifically designed to avoid this problem.
