No Playback
« on: September 13, 2014, 02:33:37 pm »

Hi

MC20 doesn't play music files. If I switch to MC19 it works fine. My Pc plays back music files fine otherwise.

In MC19 run File → Library → Back Up Library
In MC20 run File → Library → Restore Library

Maybe another audio program is using WASAPI in Exclusive mode.

It would have given an error then, I think, not played silent, anyway.

Are you sure you don't have it muted?  Under the speaker icon from within MC, or the Windows sound control?

Assuming not, run through the Audio Setup section of the Wiki again.  It is possible it is trying to play to the wrong sound device (though if you imported settings when you did the restore suggested above, then it should have copied your settings entirely).

If that still doesn't solve it, please describe in detail what options you have set (all of the stuff talked about in that wiki article).

Yes the volume is up and not muted

I tried re booting and got an error message saying I needed to re boot again as there was a MC20 loading error

I re booted again and the error message didn't re appear but still no sound

My audio set up is identical to MC19, using ASIO4ALL v2 (ASIO), screen capture attached.

Using ASIO4ALL is not recommended, its just a wrapper around other Windows audio APIs which MC  supports directly. I would recommend to use WASAPI instead if your audio device has no native ASIO driver.

Check the Windows mixer and make sure nothing is muted.

The PC is not muted and MC20 is not muted

MC19 works fine, still. All other audio works fine still

I keep getting the error message which I attach as a screen shot

I have tried re booting

Did you try DirectSound?

I hadn't tried Direct sound, tried all the others.

Direct sound works!

I also tried switching back from Direct sound to WASAPI which now also works, which it hadn't prior to first selecting direct sound

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this issue
