DLNA and conversion of DSD files to PCM for playback
« on: September 22, 2014, 09:49:50 am »

I am using the PSAUDIO PWD II DAC and the Bridge with JRiver MC20 on a Mac.

How do I apply the DSD filter (low pass filter) as is the case if I select player instead of Perfectwave DAC.

I cannot find the ability to apply filters when outputting to ethernet.  The system is obviously doing the DSD to PCM conversion as everything plays correctly.  But how can I confirm that I am not sending the high frequency noise to the DAC?

thanks

You cannot apply DSP to DLNA devices.
However, the filter used for DSD to PCM conversion is set via Tools → Options → Audio → Advanced → Configure input plug-in… → DSD input plug-in…

I recommend using the standard "24kHz @ 48dB/octave" filter if you want to eliminate all the ultrasonic noise. The weaker filters don't filter it all out.

Thanks for that info, I do have that setting enabled.

Does that mean that filter will be applied whenever DSD to PCM conversion is required, whether the output is Player or Perfectwave DAC (e.g. DLNA)?

I am definitely only outputting only PCM to the DLNA.

thanks

Yes, I believe it applies to all DSD to PCM playback/conversion.

Hi Guys,
I've problem to do what you suggest...
Here JRiver 19.
We have a Trinnov amethyst as audio render in DLNA network.
Amethyst is not able to render DSD files ... So I need JRiver that send to amethyst all compatible files as ORIGINAL.
We need also JRiver to convert all DSD to PCM and send them to amethyst.

I was no able to find the filter to convert DSD...
Can you help me?
thank you

Conversion is set in MC's options for the DLNA Server.  It's under Media Network.

Hi Jim,
I se no "MC" options for DLNA server!
I go in options > Media network > "add or configure DLNA servers" > audio
If under audio I select "Original" I can't listen my DSD files.
If I select "specified output format only when necessary" I can listen DSD files but ... JRiver converts also Flac files! :(
And I don't whant to confert other files different from DSD.

Where I'm wrong?

another question: What is the best conversion format for DSD? PCM24 192Khz?

another question:What is PCM L24 no header??

thank you

Select a server there, then set the options as you want them.

I can't help with what format you should use.

The PCM no header is just an option that some players need.  You could try it.

What options Jim?

If I select "Original" I can't ear DSD,
If I select "specified output format only when necessary" I've the conversion of DSD files but JRiver converts also my Flacs.

What is the right setting to ONLY converts DSD files?

Excuse me guys,
in JRiver there is no the ability to choose discretely the type of file and select the related decoding method-format?
This will prevent any problem like mine....

If I understood well the mode "specified output format only when necessary" suppose a perfect dialogue between JRiver and the player (in my case Trinnov's Amethyst) but ... It's hard to do!
If JRiver has some discrete decoding method per file like described above this will solve any decoding problem.

JRiver alredy has this possibility?

No it does not have that capability. Like you, I also think it would be a very useful feature.
