Easy way to tag photos in folders
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:04:04 pm »

i have a large amount of photos i want to begin tagging. I have them well organized in folders and sub folders. Is there a way to get to these folders themselves thru MC? It would be so much easier to tag groups of them at one time in the folders they reside.

Try this:

Right Click on Images in the Tree - Add Library View.

Click on Shortcuts, Keywords, & Ratings then give your view a name then click OK.

Right click the top tab Shortcuts - and select Add Category To The Left. Select File path and click OK.

This will provide you with what you want I believe.

One of the Library Tools can tag the files according to their directory names.  Experiment with a few copies first.

Thx to all for your suggestions. I was easily able to get the folder structure in MC. I'm in process of taging blocks of videos which is very time consuming and will take some trial & error but its much simpler this way than it would be without my folder structure groupings.

This may be of use to you.  I use the following expression to automatically tag the Album Field during auto-import:

Code: [Select]
ifelse(isequal([Media Type], Image), FileFolder(,0), isequal([Media Sub Type], Home Video), FileFolder(,0))

OK....I've gotten a lot of work done. Of course, still have lots more!

BIG question ..... for Photos I am using the folowing catagories in this sort order;

Album
Genre
Events
Place
Year

All photos are assigned to an album. Most to a genre. Some to an event.  Some to a place. All have year.

How do I "skip" a categorize for a group that may not have been assigned it? IE: for those groupings I have not assigned an event....how can I go straight from Genre to place or year (if it also doesn't have "place" assigned) to avoid "unassigned" folders?
