Search box suggestions
« on: October 29, 2014, 03:08:47 pm »

Like the increased number.
Making it user configurable like "Right click recent command count" would even be better

As you can see in the attachment, I can use a list a bit wider (yeah, Classical)

In the suggestions I see the Series tag
I don't need it

In "Manage Library Fields" I disabled "Default Search Field" for series.
I expected it to drop from the suggestions but it doesn't
How do I get rid of Series in the suggestions?
What is "Default Search Field" supposed to do?

Well just empty the series field in the library if it's not meaningful.

I use Series as a key for my relational fields
So it is highly useful but as it acts like a primary key, not useful in the suggestions.

Yep, it's still searching all fields instead of only fields whitelisted for search:

Yes, I want copyright info and catalog numbers in my library.
No, I don't want it to be a field that Media Center searches.

Googled a little.
The wiki says this has been changed in 17.
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tags
Can't say I appreciated this inconsistent behavior: standard tags are always included even if you uncheck "Default search field"

If what the Wiki says is true: standard tags are always included even if you uncheck "Default search field"

In Manage library fields if you select "Show only fields not searched by default" the list is useless as the setting of "Default search field" is not honored most of the time.
In a consistent UI "Default search field" should be checked and disabled in all cases where this setting is not honored.

The default search field selection does something different than control the suggestions.

I looked at mating the two, but I don't think it's a good idea because lots of stock fields aren't search fields but should show suggestions.

I'm afraid I don't understand.
A field is used in the search or not.
If a field is used in a search is can be displayed in the suggestions or not
If a field is NOT used in the search is can be displayed in the suggestions? If not used how could its content being relevant?
