Anyone using DoP? Hugo? Settings?
« on: November 20, 2014, 04:21:15 am »

My objective is to send native DSD files to my DAC (Hugo) which as I understand it only accepts DoP.
Looking at the notes on DoP for the Windows version of JRiver, there seem to be 2 categories of settings:

1.Turning on bitstreaming in playback options, which itself has a specific sub-option of DoP
2. Output format encoding in DSP studio as DoP

As I understand it, in Windows I would only need to engage 1. above with 2. being irrelevant as my files are natively DSD. However, on my set up at least, the Linux version of JRiver does not have the specific DoP option under the bitstreaming menu.  My question therefore is whether I should or shouldn't also set output format to DoP at 2. above?

From testing so far, providing I turn bitstreaming on (DSD, not specifically DoP) everything works fine and the Hugo indicates it is receiving DSD.  Whether or not output format encoding is left at "none" or set to "DoP..." makes no difference, which makes me wonder whether the Hugo is just converting to PCM anyway?

Your thoughts/experience as to optimum settings?

Thanks

From what I understand linux can only do DoP so that is why there is no switch under the bitstreaming menu.

In the next future linux will support both DoP and native, see

Looking at the versions of the necessary pieces in that post I think mainstream linux support is pretty far off.
