Hello.

I have an Apple TV connected to a nice LED TV, but unfortunately an older non-smart TV. I also have a central Windows server with JRiver housing music and movies (most in mkv) and feeding a smart TV and serving as server for music and pictures for other devices. It would be great to connect the server to the Apple TV and just enjoy. But is there a way to do that?

I'm taking the lack of answers as a "no, you cannot stream from JRiver to AppleTV". Would anyone please care to confirm?

You're correct.  But try searching for "Airplay".

I searched for Airplay, but didn't get much info. Maybe you meant it so I get a flavor of the many people having failed. I guess the AppleTV is a dead end, then. Not married to it either.

What about a Western Digital TV? Could I stream movies from MC to a WDTV? Or what other such device would work?

Using forum search on this topic (WD TV) will give you a few results.

I had a Western Digital (WD) TV Live Media Player and it worked well for me as an DLNA renderer. So you are able to stream to WD TV using MC to control the playback. It's also possible to use WD TV to browse MCs content and select files for playback. But I didn't test the later scenario in detail.

The time I was playing around with my WD TV I wasn't satisfied because DLNA didn't support MCs DSP settings and so it was kind of useless to me. But that has changed recently. Anyway: if DSP isn't that important to you, I'd give this small box a go! But I'd also consider what JimH suggested in an other thread: get a old, cheap BlueRay player with DLNA support could be a solution here to (of course depending on what you wanna do).

Correct.  Apple has deliberately crippled the unit and prevented anyone else from making solutions that would work around it.  It's a dead end.
