bitrate

hello: just started with jrmc for mac-all my 800+albums/15000+ songs transfered from itunes. when playing the bitrate says 1411kbps or lower-all my rips are from original cd's in aiff- why isn't the bitrate higher and how can i change it?

The bitrate for a WAV or AIFF file would be 1411kbps.  Lossless versions (FLAC, ALAC) can vary (even per song within an album) but typically would be 500 - 1000kbps.  Lossy files such as mp3 will be 128/256/392 in most cases. Those would all be based on 16 bit files.  Higher resolution (24 bit files etc) would be significantly higher (though I cannot remember the numbers off the top of my head before my first cup of coffee) in the 2400-4800 range.

mwheelerk: thankyou some of my bitrates are even high @2100+ so they must be pretty good 'rips'-thanks bobbmd
