fat tag fields in 20.0.47 – turn off?
« on: December 10, 2014, 03:04:19 pm »

20.0.47 introduced fat tag fields – inline editing fields that are tall (much bigger than than the row being edited). this is not an improvement. instead, it is an annoyance. can it be turned off by some obscure option setting?

I'm not aware of any change.  What types of fields are you editing?  Editing a list-style field will show a big entry box because there's a lot of stuff.

Sounds like you may be using the black on black skin? Something changed in 20.0.47 that caused issue with that skin. I also see it in the Pearl Bailey skin. Try switching skins. This has been discussed a little in the sticky thread for the .47 build at the top of the forum. Also here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=94056.0

I am using a black-on-black skin. It is a bug to have skins behave differently (as opposed to simply look different).

I ran into this as well. Only the black on black skin is displaying this anomaly.

All the others seem to be just fine. Of course, I haven't tried "all" but I did look @ a number of them looking to replace B on B tho to be honest, I could live with it even if it's isn't ideal...

The fix for me was to go back to .44 and that is where i will stay until they either fix it or have a HUGE breakthrough with something I can't live with out in a update. That is of course on the main machine that i do all my tagging and analyzing and what ever on!

Get more skins from here http://accessories.jriver.com/mediacenter/accessories.php

I am liking the Carbon skin. Albedo isn't too bad either.

I took a quick look at some skins. You notice that the margins settings for Peril Bailey and Black on Black have a few different settings in the action bar than other skins. You may want to have a play with them. You could probably fix it temporarily while JRiver finds a fix.

They are in the Skins sub folder of JRiver. Look at the main.xml file. Make a backup first of course. In particular look at the Template settings.

Black on Black:

Perl Bailey:

Noir:

Keep in mind I'm no expert on JRiver skins. Just an observation that may make an end user fix possible.

I had looked around in there before but didn't know what would be relevant to the issue. On your suggestion I played with the template setting in the actionwindows section but couldn't get anything to change in respect to the search/tag edit field sizes. So I took the entire main.xml from the noire skin and put it in the black on black folder. As expected the skin did change taking on some of the noire characteristics but to my surprise the large fields problem still was there. I really don't understand why that would be seeing as other than the xml the only other files are png. I also replaced the Playerbar_Search.png with the one from noire and the search bar looked like noire but was still too large.

Guess I don't know much about MC skinning either.

Ok after some more looking at this I found that the problem is in the Frame_Button.png file. It appears to be twice the height of the other skins. I opened it in gimp and cropped it to half the height and now my black on black skin is back to normal.

You can download my edited file from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8STIzDFNsyoQzZuaGxSNHV5Ulk/view?usp=sharing
Save it into your "C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 20\Skins\Standard View\Black on Black" overwriting your current file. Backup the original first if you want.

You could also just copy the Frame_Button.png file from the Noire skin folder and paste it into black on black. The Noire file is different but I don't see any difference in MC when using it.

Hope this helps.

When you click the link, at the top middle of the page you should see I down arrow that you can click to download the file. I also uploaded the file as a zip here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8STIzDFNsyoWmNncFFmVmVVZ1U/view?usp=sharing
If you download the zip you will obviously need to extract the png file from it first then move that to your skin folder.

If you still have problems you can just copy the Frame_Button.png file from the NOIRE folder and paste it into the Black on Black. I don't see any difference in MC when using that file.

Also I'm not sure if a MC update will replace the file but if so once you figure out what needs to be done it only takes 10 seconds to copy the fixed file back. Maybe jriver can add this to the next version?

Thank You. replacing that .png file worked like a charm. For anyone else that does this you need to close MC and reopen it to see the fix...I will keep a extra copy of the new .png around in case a update over rides it...so now im back to .48 and all is well....

Thanks Again...

That's why you should consider forking the skin with an edited name like Black On Black (Fixed) so the fix doesn't get overridden.

Copy and paste the skin folder to the desktop, rename the folder to something like Black on Black (Fixed), add the fixed Frame_Button.png file (replacing the original), open main.xml in a text editor like Notepad++, change the skin name (same name as the folder rename), save your modifications then finally move the renamed folder into the skin directory. All you have to do then is select the fixed skin in MC.

I had thought about about doing this as well but I was thinking jriver would have maybe included the fixed file in the next update. This does make the fix permanent so guess it doesn't matter.
