How To Install Linux License?
« on: December 13, 2014, 12:30:22 am »

I installed the Linux version of MC and went under Help --> Install License and entered the registration code that I had received.  Doing that took me to the restore page where I entered the information as requested and got a .mjr file.  What do I need to do with the .mjr file to import the license?

Thanks

It should have installed automatically, but I suppose it can still fail on some distros.

To do it manually, you need to open a terminal and from the location where you saved the mjr file, use the command:

mediacenter20 /RestoreFromFile "Media Center20 Linux-YYYYYY.mjr"

Fill in the YYYYY with the number that's in the file, make sure the filename matches the file you saved.

Thanks, that worked.

The link does not have any information on how to install Linux license.

Jim,

I already had a mrj file which did not get installed automatically.  I tried opening it with JRiver and that failed also.  The only thing that worked was information provided by "inflatableMouse"

The problem may be the distro you're using.

Jim,

I am using Debian with XFCE and the version of MC is 20.0.46.  Anything else to try to figure out why it did not work?

Are you sure it didn't work?

The license will be installed when you enter the registration code. The mjr file isn't necessary, it's just a different way to get the license in case your MC wasn't able to reach the license server on the internet.

On linux MC doesn't control the "file associations" so the mjr file is only useful on the command line as IM said.

If you didn't get licensed when you entered the code possible issues are trouble reaching (at least just at that particular time) the license server on the internet or a lack of an ssl certificate file or an out of date one. You could try "update-ca-certificates" from a command line as root.

I am pretty sure it did not install the license, since it kept saying unregistered and 30 day trial even after restarting MC and also rebooting.  Ran the updated ca command and it came back 0 added or removed.  I can install Debian again and go through the restore process with any debugging option that you want turned on to provide you guys with feedback.  I think I still have couple of restores left.

We can reset the restores but I don't think you need to go through that now that you have the license installed.
Are you running 64 bit? I haven't done a license test on that lately but it did work fine last time I checked.
Do you have anything other than a single ethernet interface for networking?

Yes to 64-bit and single ethernet interface.  I do not have anything setup on the server so resetting and getting you guys information is not that big a deal.

I just tested it here with a default 64 bit wheezy installation and it worked fine.
Perhaps there was just a routing issue between you and the license server when you tried it.

I cannot install my Master license.  I've gotten 15 emails with codes buy-button@jriver.

I get this email everytime I use xterm ( I'm using UBUNTU) and run:

mediacenter20 /Dowloads "Media Center20 Master-89620.mjr"

I am really frustrated and don't understand why it keeps using my codes. Seriously 15 codes in 10 minutes...

I didn't know this till I checked my email to write this in the forum.

Why is it doing this?

Try like this;

Code: [Select]
mediacenter20 /RestoreFromFile "Media Center20 Master-89620.mjr"
Make sure you cd into the directory with the terminal where your license file is located in first.

I'm having trouble installing my master license in Ubuntu 14.10 (x64).

When I run this (subbed in my actual file name):
Code: [Select]
mediacenter20 /RestoreFromFile "Media Center20 Linux-YYYYYY.mjr"
I am receiving this error:
Code: [Select]
p11-kit: couldn't load module: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-kcs11.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Could not restore license from file Media Center20 Master-286362.mjr

Looks to me like it's trying to load up 32-bit libs. Did some quick searching, and the items I found were related to wine, which may be used by mediacenter(?). Incidentally, I see this same error when I launch mediacenter from a terminal, but MC still starts up (and says it not registered)

Anyhoo, made sure gnome-keyring was install, and it is (64-bit version, anyway).

Any ideas? Is there some step I may have missed during the install?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Make sure you've satisfied all of dependencies. Have you tried looking at my Ubuntu setup guide? The license works fine for me from the terminal.

You have the current build of MC?
The older ones can't install a master license.

Are you running the command from the command line as the same user as MC runs as from the GUI?

If MC's running from the GUI ok, the license should install.

D'oh. I followed Donkey's guide *too* closely - it was not the latest version in the commands I copied. I just installed 20.0.64, and was able to install the license.

Thanks!
