Using MC20 code to register MC17
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:00:10 am »

Hi,

I have three machines on my network. I installed MC20 on two that are running under Windows 7.
The installation on the third, running under XP, fails (Install Launcher fails right after extraction).

Same thing for MC19 and MC18.

I was able to install MC17.
Unfortunately I can't register it. When I try to restore the license, I get "Error restoring Media Center License: Unknown Error".

It seems easier to solve :
Licensing the MC17 version with my MC20 license
than
Installing MC20 on my older machine.

Thanks for any help.

An MC 20 license won't work with MC 17.

MC 20 should install on XP without problems.  Antivirus problem?

Thank's for the answer but...

I have no antivirus on that machine.
I have installed other software with no problems.
Version 17 installs ok,but I have the install problem with versions 18, 19 and 20!
I tried reinstalling an old ghost(2012) of the system. But I get the same result.
Would the error report be any help?

Do you have a version of Windows without IE?

I don't think it's XP.  It may be an old processor.

I am not sure what you would call "really old".

I use it mainly for listening to music. Ripping, tagging, organizing and building playlists is done on another computer.

It has:
Motherboard : A7N8X-VM/400
CPU             : AMD Athlon 2600+ (1.91GHz)
Memory       : 1 Gb RAM
Audio          : Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio CODEC
OS              : Windows XP SP3

MC requires a CPU which at least supports SSE2. The Athlon XP 2600+ you mentioned does not support this, and is no longer supported.
This model was in production from 2001 to 2004, so its over 10 years old ... I would consider this "really old". ;)

You might try using Media Jukebox: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=58631.0

Thanks to all of you who took time to answer my posts.

I'll try using media jukebox on that computer.

I really appreciate MediaCenter.
I have been using it for only a few weeks but already it's a pleasure to open on the computer, it looks good, sounds good, it's easy to use and I have yet to find a bug (Hope I never do).  :D

Thanks again for everything.

And just for today  "I am CHARLIE"
