TEAC HA-P50 USB Amplifier/DAC: no JRiver ASIO driver available
« on: January 11, 2015, 08:50:38 am »

Between my HP 8510P notebook (W7 Enterprise 64-bit) and my Shure SE 535 IEM's, I've connected the TEAC HA-P50 Amplifier/DAC.

The drop-down menu does offer me different Audio Output Modes to choose:
- Loudspeakers (HA-P50) [WASAPI] - currently in use
- HA-P50 [Kernel Streaming] - can't get it working
- Loudspeakers (HA-P50) [Direct Sound] - not relevant; inferior to other modes
- some other for me irrelevant audio modes

TEAC doesn't offer a custom driver for this model.
For an unknown reason I can't get the asio4all driver working.

But what I'm missing in the list of offered Audio Output Modes is the JRiver ASIO driver. Why?

ADDED:
Please note that the ASIO driver has been enabled in "Options, General, Features".
However, it's still not listed in the drop down menu of the Audio Output Modes!

My understanding that asio4all is the same as Kernel Streaming.

Windows provided drivers don't support ASIO natively, so the only way that you'd get an ASIO driver for a piece of hardware is if the device manufacturer supplies one.  Put another way, not all sound devices support ASIO output. If TEAC doesn't provide an ASIO driver (and no TEAC fans have taken it upon themselves to write an "unofficial" ASIO driver for it), then that means the device doesn't support ASIO.

John57 is correct, ASIO4All isn't true ASIO output, it' just a software wrapper for kernel streaming, so if kernel streaming doesn't work, it isn't likely to either.

WASAPI in exclusive mode is a bitperfect output mode, so it should be just as good as ASIO would have been for most purposes.

Correct.  It's a wrapper for Kernel Streaming.

ASIO drivers usually come from the device manufacturer.
