New installed MC20 constantly crashes [Solved]
« on: January 27, 2015, 08:51:03 am »

I've run MC20 on my Windows 8 laptop for quite a while, without any crash problems ever.   Yesterday I took advantage of the discount price
offer to purchase a Master License so I could run MC on my iMac (using OSX 10.85).  This morning I installed the program.  It opens,
and then in about 30 seconds it crashes. It just crashed again right now while I'm merely writing this message.  In nine point font the Mac crash report covers over 50 pages,  nearly all of which makes no sense to me.  The latest crash report begins: "Interval Since Last Report: 2249 sec
Crashes Since Last Report:6
Per-App Crashes Since Last Report:6
Anonymous UUID: 6F29A312-A23C-49EF-91C6-07D15822A7A8
Crashed Thread:  9
Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000119590fbc".

It may be of interest that while I was running the free trial on my Mac this didn't happen.  I now have 20.0.62.  I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Could you enable logging (quickly before it crashes) in Help / Logging.  Then send a Media Center log file along with the Mac crash report.  Please send to logs at jriver dot com.
Alternatively you could attach the log file and crash reports to posts on this thread (click "Additional Options..." and "Choose File" to attach to a post while you're editing it).

Make sure you're using 20.0.62, available above.

OK.  I was able to save a crash report to the desktop.  I attach it here.

Try turning off auto-import.  It may be finding a file that is causing a problem.

Yes, it's most likely auto-import that is crashing when importing images from your folder /Users/Bill/Pictures.  The log shows that there are a lot of applications installed in that folder and they contain psd, gif, and png files that Media Center is attempting to import.  Not sure why that is causing a problem but if you disable auto-import I think it will stop crashing.

I did as you advised, and it appears to have solved the problem.  I've listened to several songs, with no crashes. Apparently, this means that I shouldn't use "Auto-Import".  I guess it was those graphic files that it didn't like.  In any case, many thanks; I greatly appreciate your help.

Glad it's working for you now.  However, Media Center should not be even trying to import those image files, so we'll get that fixed in an upcoming build.  You can use auto-import, but just configure it to only import from the folders you want.  File / Library / Import.. / Configure auto-import
