Trouble playing streams on DLNA renderer
« on: February 12, 2015, 04:51:22 am »

Guys,

I'm using jriver on linux with the 3D Lab Nano Transport, which is using ABC-PCB Network Audio Rederer (http://www.abc-pcb.com/?page_id=192).
I can stream al sorts of radio channels just fine, but i'm listening a lot to smoothjazz KJAZ.db. They have 2 sreams available:

http://sj128.hnux.com 128 kb/s
http://sj256.hnux.com 265 kb/s

These are hosted on a XCAP server. JRiver can play them fine when using my local soundcard, but if fails to play them on the DLNA Transport. According to jriver and VLC, it's a mp3 stream so this shouln't be a problem on the 3D Lab.

Does anyone have an idua how to solve this so i can stream them to the DLNA Transport? I'm not getting much support from 3D Lab or ABC-PCB on this.

Thanks in advance,

Frans

MC can stream a radio station if you save it as a playlist, and then play the playlist.  At least it works when you're playing from the server.  I do this with Gizmo.

Play the stream in MC, then right click on in it in Playing Now to send it to a playlist.

Jim,

That is not the problem; i'm playing it sucessfully through MC on windows (already added to playlist). It's just when i'm sending it to the DNLA renderer it fails to play.

It will play to some devices (like the Id) and not others (like my Noxon DLNA radio).

I suspect there is something about the headers provided by the stream that some of your DLNA devices don't like.

That suggests a possible new feature request -- namely that MC would act as a proxy server for remote streams. It would then download the stream from the remote server and proxy it on to the renderer, applying proper headers, possible transcoding, and DSP etc.

Gizmo already does that in a way for video streams.
Transcoding used to work with audio streams before we changed how we do transcoding.
