If you install MC20, it should find and use your old library.  Or you can back up from MC16 and restore in MC20.

It's under the File menu.

File > Library > Back Up Library... to backup the library. To restore the library just go to File > Library > Restore Library...

I did this but I can't see any new files or or file ratings.. I have almost 1 tb of songs, many with star ratings in MC18, not in the files, so this is a catastrophe for me.. have to import them or else MC20 is worthless for me :( ...

That should work.  Try again.  Make sure MC16 has the library you want.

Is it installed and working as you wish?

If so, do a backup.

The program is our responsibility.  The data is yours.

Do the files show up in MC16?

But not in MC20?

Exactly.. Playlists not showing either.
Maybe I should try uninstalling MC20 and installing again.. but should I delete the library also then..? Or will that delete the MC16 library as well?

Uninstalling wouldn't do anything.  When you restore, you're replacing your library.

I just hoped that reinstalling MC20 might initiate the process of importing the library from MC16 again.. if anybody can help please do.. And I did not mean to be rude in my earlier comments.. just had a bad day/last week.

try starting MC20 (don't start MC16)

go to file>library>library manager

add library.  this will clean everything out of the program that may be there (not permanently!)

now with a fresh library, go to file>library>restore library

you'll be given a pop up that asks for the location of your backup.  depending on your install location it will be something like in c:\users\documents\JRiver\Media Center 16\Library Backups.  Make sure you choose the MC 16 folder and NOT the MC20 folder!!!

check the boxes for restore library and playlists and settings

when you click ok you'll be sent to a list of backups that were found in that location.  if you don't see anything there, you got your location wrong!  pick the most recent backup, click ok, and MC20 should now be happily loaded with your old library, playlists, and settings.

You just want to back the library up in MC16 and restore in MC20.

Maybe you should upload your MC16 backup for Matt to look at to see if there's any issues with it?

Tried.. get the following error message:

'Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information.'

Maybe I could upload it somewhere else.

You could email your library backup to matt at jriver dot com.

I can't make any promises, but I'll at least look at it.

Thanks.

It restored no problem.

So it's really a mystery that it's not working for you.

Make sure you don't check to restore settings.
