TV tuner keeps reverting to NTSC
« on: September 30, 2003, 12:34:01 am »

Hi,
After installing MC and reseting the tv tuner, I configure it for working at PAL. TV is viewed well. But if I close MC, and lunch it again, MC goes to NTSC instead of the selected PAL. I get this isue with a flyvideo card.
In continue to a previos report on this bug, I have tried showshifter, and found that their the settings load up well. So I ask again that you try to make MC remember my PAL setting.

I also ask to be able to delete unwanted chanels from the TV Tuner window, witout having to enter the option window

I have the the FlyVideo 98 with the conexant 878a video card.
Here is the rest:

I double checked my code and found that there is a mechanism to save TV standard settings. It works well on my machine. Of course my card has a tuner that is only capable of receiving NTSC signal. But the capture portion is capable of PAL. When I set it to PAL, it remembers it.

Please check your registry, and look for the value named "TV Standard" under this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\TV Settings

What value does it have after running MC TV, setting it to PAL, and exiting MC?

This value is for NTSC_M. It looks that the driver has too short a memory. When I ask the driver for the value, it gives me this. Either it reverts to NTSC too soon, or it never gives the right value. Anyway I will make some changes and we will see.

« Reply #5 on: October 02, 2003, 02:53:10 am »

When ever I run MC, I have to click to watch a chanel, it shows at NTSC (altho I have changed it to PAL).
Now I click advanced, and change the system to PAL. Its not enotgh, I have to click the preview Item and then click OK.
Now I can see TV.

Pls fix it.

How did you change it to PAL?

By keyboard shortcut or by "TV Options" | "Advanced Properties" | "Video Capture Filter ..." ?

If it was the latter, please try using keyboard short cut - CTRL + SHIFT + 'F', keep pressing the combination until you see your desired format displayed.

Is the "TV Standard" registry value still equal to 1 after you set format to PAL and quit MC?

I used to change the TV system using TV Options" | "Advanced Properties" | "Video Capture Filter ..."
then just entering video preview pin , and exiting. without going in to the preview window I get a "doubled " tv screen, when it seems as if two screens appear one on the other in a slight phase to the right.
now when I press the ctrl+shift+F I get the same display bug of "double display".

The value of 0x10, a hex value equivalent to decimal 16, is the right value for PAL_B.

Can you do a reset, (Options, Reset), and start over? When Starting over, use only Ctrl + SHIFT + F method to change to PAL_B, then exit. Check registry value and see if it is 0x10.

Then reset again, this time use the configuration dialog to change to PAL_B, instead of keyboard. Check the registry value again.

I did what u asked :
1. exited MC.
2. went in to the registry and so its set to pal.
3. ran MC and went to TV tuner.
4. clicked on reset devide in the option window.
5. exited the option window with ok
6. lunched a channel
7.configured the tv card and sound connection.
8. clicked ctrl-shift-f and with one click changed to pal-b.
all is well.
9. exited MC
10. saw that the registry key is set to PAL.

after lunching MC again it loaded in NTSC
:-(

clicking ctrl-shift-f and doing a full cycle I go back to PAL-b , and then it look good.
BUT
The picture is cut out. I need to go into preview pin and click OK.
Then all is well.

Thanks for reporting back.

From what you said, I can conclude that,

1. Your device driver's get_TVFormat method is broken. It always says it has NTSC even after you set it to PAL_B.

2. The device driver's set_TVFormat method is partially broken. It does not set the format at the start of the program, even though I try to set it in my program.

Problem 1 can be by-passed by using only Ctrl+Shift+F to change format, instead of using the "Advanced Properties"\"Video Capture Filter...". There is nothing else I can do about it.

I will do something about problem 2, as well as the display problem, on Monday.

request a day too late.
me found more bugs:
When I scaned for channels I got up to channel 188.
When I try to rename channel 188 the drop down window shows only 125 channels. y?

When seeing a TV channel I switch the line in mute, so I can hear other thing, while seeing TV. If I change the channel, the mute goes off and I can hear the TV sound again.
Please make it remember the mute.

I also ask you improove the way to flip throgh channels, the buttom right and left buttons are not so comftrable.

And please give me the option to double click a channel in the option window and it will enter to modify mode.

In the tv tuner window I like to have a right click on the channels to have a renaming option.

Thanks,

This is a bit unusual, but I will see what I can do about it.

We will look into your other bug reports/suggestions too.

These drivers fixed it all!
Mc doesn't go back to ntsc any more.
In fact its the first time I see PAL under options/advanced/tv tuner

Can I send u my secend Life view tv card some you may debug it with MC?

also take a look at www.brogtech.com

You mean you had me do all the work for nothing? ;D
I am so glad the problem is solved! I should have thought about asking you to try the universal driver since I knew that the problem you had was caused by a misbehaving driver. Anyway you made me make my code more robust, so it may actually work better with other misbehaving drivers ;).

it may be a good idea to add the driver to MC installation, so to avoid the problem I had.
After all MC promisses TV capabilities, and most of the users would d/l MC, install it, see tv problems, and remove it.

Niv,
The problem is a driver problem and it should be fixed by the manufacturer of the card.
