Images fine in Windows but rotated in JRiver
« on: March 05, 2015, 02:26:15 pm »

Hi All

In the process of putting all my photo albums into JRiver. All going well, nicely tagged etc but have noticed that there are lots of images that are orientated fine in Windows explorer thumbnails but are rotated in JRiver. See below

Anyone got any clue what is going on and how I fix this? Its not just the odd one or two its hundreds!!

image in windows

same image rotated in JRiver

Boy, we should read the EXIF orientation tag.  Could you mail a sample or two to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks.

Thanks for the file.  It has two orientation tags in the EXIF and the first is right and the second is wrong.  I'm still thinking about how our parser should handle this.

Coming next build:
Changed: If an image has two rotation tags in the EXIF header, the first value is used instead of the second value (that way we work the same as Windows Explorer).

Probably this week.  If you purchased any build of MC20, all the rest are free.  Just download and install them.

will the fix only work when images are imported?

if so I guess I'll have to go through all my images and fix the tag data...?

You'll want to right-click and do Library Tools > Update Library (from tags) for any files you've imported.

If they're not imported, we'll read the tags when you look at them (and get it right now).

Hi Matt

Have tried the above on one file and it rotates it to the proper orientation.

My next step is to do it on all my images. I know some of the Library Tool functions are very powerful. Do I need to be wary of anything before I carry out the above operation on all my image files.

Regards,Andrew

Do the operation to a small batch first.  If that goes ok, try a larger batch.  If you aren't running into issues do them all at once

All the update from tags is doing is re-importing the existing tag data to force the new feature to recognize the change.  It shouldn't have any other effects
