Are there possibilities to download skin for JR Media for the MAC OSx?

Hello kishorat,

You can use Windows version of skin from Mac version. Just go to Applications folder and control+click on JRiver MC 20, and click Show Package Contents.

From there, double click on "Contents" > "Resources"

When you extract a JRiver MC for Windows skin file, it will have a Skin folder and may have a Data folder. Put whatever named skin folder into "Skins" folder and copy whatever inside of Data folder to "Data" folder of it. You will be able to see the skin name on the skins menu once you put the skin into "Skins" folder.

Thank you so much. I did it! But many skins do favor windows ( close, minimize and maximize buttons are right hand side), except the Noire! Do you have any recommendations for skin for mac?

You are right. I feel that JRiver MC is relatively new to OS X world, so I think it's up to us to create new skins.

I personally use Modern Cards: Duo (OS X Yosemite); this particular version of Modern Cards: Duo has the close, minimize, & maximize buttons on left.

I highly recommend Modern Cards: Duo (OS X Yosemite).

But keep in mind with every new MC20 for Mac update, you'll have to add the skins to the package contents again.

Where, exactly? Within the MC app or to a directory like ~/Library/Application Support?

It'd be awesome if we could install skins in both Mac and Linux without workarounds (embedding skins into the Media Center 20.app itself in Mac and using root/Terminal to install skins on Linux to /usr/lib/jriver/).

This doesn't work for me. When I install an update and select to replace the existing version, the installer overwrites everything in the Media Center directories. I'm guessing you are thinking of the Windows version.

The problem is that in the Mac version, these directories reside inside the app itself.
MC's current upgrade method is simply to replace the app, rather than update it, so you lose any customizations.
These really need to be relocated to the user's Application Support directory on OS X, so that any custom skins or other customizations persist through upgrades.

A simple way to do this on the JRiver end would be to simply add a symlink in the install package to:
~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 20/Custom Resources

Then this would work the way the application expects, but users could put custom resources in the Application Support directory where they belong.

Copy-and-replace is overwrite on OSX.  It works differently than Windows (which merges directories).
