JRiver Will Not Play on my Mac Mini
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:44:29 pm »

Just set up my Mac Mini for CA and cannot get JRiver to play.

Here is the message I get:

Here is my set up on the Mac:

Any help appreciated.  Frustrated.  BTW, I've tried 44 kHz instead of 192 kHz, also.  Same result.

You may have to make adjustments in DSP Studio. See the following thread on how I solved a similar problem with Matt's help.

Tried that several times.  No good.  Here are some screen shots of what I'm getting:

1.  Changing sampling rate to 44.1 kHz

2.  Attempting to Load this sampling rate

3.  JRiver Telling me 'Output Format Not Loaded'

I think this is a JRiver issue somewhere, but WHERE? There must be a hidden button somewhere I'm missing

Maybe you should try changing it to 48 kHz or higher as a test?

Tried them all.  No soap.  I always get the 'output format not loaded' message and the player won't play.

Have you modified your OS in any way?

Is a sound device present?

Did you change 44.1 to 48?

From your screen shot it looks like the output for 44.1 is "No change". Try clicking on the "No change" for 44.1 and change it to 48.

No mods to OS.  What's a 'sound device'  ?   ?

I've tried all kHz settings.  Nothing works.

Why do your output settings indicate '48kHz' and mine indicate 'No output' ??

First I would see if you have integer mode enabled (see the screen shot in Magic Randy's last post). I don't know if the peach tree is integer capable. Also your settings don't say " No output " they say "no change"
While you are trying to resolve the issue uncheck options such as room correction and effects. They are probably not the issue but best to simplify things as much as possible.
What file formats are you playing, bit depth and sample frequency?

Persevere, it is worth it.

Cheers Mike

This is what I changed to make mine work. The no change means when you have 44.1, don't change the output. I clicked on the no change and made it 48.

Look at the latest attachment. In this one I'm playing a track. On the bottom it says:
Source 44.1
Internal 48

I'm not an expert on this, but I think my Mac soundcard does not support 44.1 it supports 48.

Did you click on the No change and reset it to 48? You do that right on the screen that I'm showing, you do not need to do that somewhere else.

I changed all the 'No Change' items to 48kHz.  Tried Player again, didn't work.

Then, I noticed that you had the Channel Offset set at 0 in the Core Audio Settings window.  I had it set at 2, because when it was at 0, I couldn't get the system to play, and the message in the Core Audio window indicates this may have to be changed with some trial and error.  So. I changed it, and changed it, to no effect.

So, after changing all my outputs to 48kHz AND changing the Channel Offset to 0........it now WORKS!

I would not have gotten this far without your help.  Many thanks.  No one could persevere THAT long on their own, at least not if they had anything else better to do.

This is really overly complicated.   :P   I've been working on this for three days.  I hope it sounds better than Amarra.  That worked immediately.  No fuss, no muss.

Glad it's working.

I don't know what kind of files you are trying to play. If they are hi res you may be able to bump some of these settings up.

My guess is that your starting point needs to be 48. So the 44.1 and less than 44.1 needs to be changed to 48.

You may be able to leave the rest at no change up to 192.

After 192 you may need to set it to 192.

Anyway, it's easy enough to play with the settings after you get the basics working like you did.

I changed the 48kHz back to No Change for all freqs and it still works.  That wasn' it.   Hmm.....

This is REALLY complicated.  Not for someone that has other things to do!  Anyway, on to finding the perfect sound.   ;D

Thanks for everything.  Hopefully, I can return the favor someday.  Motorcycles are what I actually know something about, so if yours won't start or the wheels fall off at 130 mph, contact me.

I've forgotten.  65 or 66, I think.  One is a Bonneville.  I think the other is the single carburetor Trophy.

Worthwhile restorations, regardless of condition, if matching numbers (and still worth it, if not, to some degree).  Actually, very easy. I've done several, all T120R's.   Almost every part is available.  Very cool machines. Important, historically.  Make sure your sound system is up and running in the garage, though, and there's a beer cooler close.   8)

It absolutely should not be that hard.  I would recommend turning off all the settings like Room Correction and audio leaving myself, until you get everything working perfectly. I just setup a Mac Mini today (well, resetup I suppose) and it took about five minutes.

You don't need to fiddle with the DAC settings in Audio/Midi by the way, just set the output sounds there to go to the built in output, then set the volume for that to zero.

Select your Peachtree in JRiver MC, you can click the output settings box if you wish, set it to two channel, and it should play for you.

Note that Peachtree X1s work fine, but the older Peachtree systems are a little cranky.

Hope it works out for you, the Mac version has some definite plus points, as does the Linux version. The biggest being that the darn Windows limit on file paths being 256 bytes or so is not an issue on MacOS or Linux. If you happen to have a lot of classical music, you can run into that problem very quickly.

Agree, it should not.  But, it is when you haven't done it before.  Once the brain damage is done, it is easy.  Just like anything else.
