Pono Music World 20.0.83 for Mac -- Available Here
« on: March 18, 2015, 03:55:01 pm »

This is the latest version of PMW20.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download: http://files.jriver.com.s3.amazonaws.com/ponotest/PonoMusicWorld200083.dmg

20.0.83 (3/18/2015)

1. Fixed: After playing a track directly from CD, a message could pop-up saying the disc could not be identified.
2. Fixed: PDT-280: WebKit plugins are now disabled.  Plugins (e.g. Silverlight) could cause crashes and freezes, especially during the checkout process.
3. Fixed: PDT-279: The drive is identified as /:\ on the CD misread Information dialog.

20.0.82 (3/16/2015)

1. Fixed: Syncing files with conversion enabled would cause files to re-convert on every sync.
2. Fixed: Tracks on device not in sync were not getting deleted even when this option was enabled.
3. Changed: Timeout moved to September 1, 2015
4. Changed: By default, list columns widths are now auto-sized depending on contents.  This can be changed in options / tree & view.
5. NEW: When songs in the PMW library are stored on a network share drive, the drive is now bookmarked by PMW so if it's not mounted after a reboot, PMW will automatically re-mount the drive when needed.
6. Fixed: CD ripping would sometimes fall out of secure mode.
7. Changed: The download process triggered at PMW startup will skip over downloads that have failed 3 or more times. Selecting "check for downloads" from the PMW account menu will force retrying the failed downloads.
8. Fixed: Numerous Retina mode improvements.

20.0.75 (2/23/2015)

1. Fixed: Signing error was causing OSX Gatekeeper to reject the app.

20.0.74 (2/20/2015)

1. Fixed: PonoPlayer external storage card was not always showing up in PMW without doing a manual re-detect of devices.

20.0.72 (2/20/2015)

1. Changed: PDT-267,PDT-254 - Added dsf and dff to supported file types for PonoPlayer.
2. Changed: PDT-263 - PMW now downloads firmware to computer and then copies to device rather than direct download to device.
3. Changed: PDT-254,251 - When 'Eject' is selected for a PonoPlayer containing an external SD card, both internal and external storage will be ejected at the same time.
4. Fixed: When music metadata contains '&' characters ("&" in the order XML), PMW no longer creates download music folder names with the "&" sequence, but simply uses "&".
5. Changed: PDT-253 - The cover art "View" option was removed from the "Library Tools / Cover Art" menu since image playback is not supported in PMW.
6. Fixed: PDT-250 - The rip fails before completely ripping the CD.
7. Fixed: PDT-256 - The CD info does not display if the user clicks on the PonoPlayer, Drives & Devices side menu option after inserting a CD.
8. Fixed: PDT-258 - The rip fails if the user attempts to rip a CD containing audio and data.
9. Fixed: PDT-259 - All of the CD information does not display if the user clicks the Rip Disc button.
10. Fixed: PDT-261 - Ripping CD’s stalls at 18% for all CD’s used.
11. Fixed: Auto-import was sometimes importing image and 'data' files which aren't supported in PMW.

20.0.50 (12/23/2014)

1. Fixed: In format conversion dialog, if a target directory was specified along with multiple levels, the converted file ended up in the wrong folder.
2. Fixed: In format conversion dialog, if a target directory was entered that did not exist or was not writable, the conversion would fail without a helpful message.
3. Fixed: DLNA serving of Ogg, MP3, MP4 files with conversion to uncompressed wave would fail on some devices because of an incorrect transcoded length value.
4. Fixed: Dates were not displayed with the locale settings in system preferences.
5. Fixed: The main application menu would often not be shown until the mouse was clicked within the app's window.
6. PDT-180 - Changed: "Open URL" removed from file menu.
7. Fixed: PDT-237 - When PMW app is launched from Finder on Mac, the PMW menu doesn't appear.
8. Changed: PDT-242 - An Eject button now appears on the Firmware update action window after the download completes.
9. Changed: PDT-244 - Update the application header logo.
10. Changed: PDT-245 - Change the text that appears when a firmware update fails due to insufficient disk space.

20.0.45 (12/8/2014)

1. Changed: More informative message in the case of download failures.
2. Fixed: File transfers to PonoPlayer were much slower than doing it via Finder.

20.0.44 (12/5/2014)

1. Fixed: Automatic recognition of PonoPlayer was not always reliable, especially if there was a long delay before user clicked the 'transfer files' button on it.
 2. Changed: More informative status text in the firmware download action window.

I just tried to see if this is working with the .83 version. Unfortunately it still does not seem to work. I have a playlist per SD card. I tried with two different playlists and SD cards (each SD card links to a different playlist). Both times no songs I removed from the playlist get removed with syncing. I can only manually remove the same songs directly from the SD card to get the card and playlist in sync again.

I can only manually remove the same songs directly from the SD card to get the card and playlist in sync again.

Further testing shows that syncing works fine now when the SD card is in the PonoPlayer (or the internal memory is used). Syncing with a MicroSD card (via an adapter) in the Internal SD card reader of my iMac does not seem to work properly:
- The sync list shows entry that are in the playlist twice, one time as On device and one time as Delete on Sync. Syncing will actually remove the files.
- If files have been removed from the playlist the are only shown as On device in the sync list and will not be removed.

It looks like some logic is reversed, but only when an internal SD card is used. Syncing the same MicroSD card through the PonoPlayer/ USB works as expected (using the same sync settings and playlist).

1. In View -> Skin -> Skin Effects I am not able to choose color.  Nothing happens when I click the "Change Color" button.

2. In the default skin, I cannot see text entered into the search field.  Have tried changing contrast and brightness in Skin Effects, but the text is barely visible.  If I recall correctly, this has been a problem with all of the versions so far.

I am unable to import FLAC files into the new pono 20.0.83.
Must say I'm not all that impressed with the pono at the moment.
Almost as much as iTunes.
Hoping restarting a couple times might help.

Is it set to import FLAC?  Under the Tools menu, choose import options and edit any directory to set the File types to be imported.

Hi there. I hadn't updated in a while. This version crashes about seven seconds after I launch it. I tried some older versions and they also crashed. Have rebooted and temporarily moved media library but all the same. App allows menu use up to point of crashing, but playback makes it crash faster. Mac 10.6.8

Do you have time to enable logging and then send a log file following a crash?

Hi there. Tried it with devices unplugged and no difference. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to enable logging, though I'm not afraid of terminal so can give it a go. Interestingly, the app tries to launch something in the dock for a fraction of a sec just before the crash; I believe this causes the crash. I also tried to run the app in my clean test user and it DOES run and launch there. It also does the same thing where it launches something in the background (it might be the "fontd" process?), but makes it through it. I'm gonna check in case it's a font conflict or something?

Well, I thought it might have been font related so I removed all user fonts leaving only system fonts. Did a restart et cetera. Still crashes. I suspect it's the fontd process. Did font validation within font book too and all fonts currently passing...

1. To enable logging, go to Help / Logging and check "Output to a log file"
2. let it crash
3. Help / Logging / Report problem
4. send to logs at jriver dot com (replace "at" and "dot" with "@" and ".")

It sounds like auto import is encountering a file that is causing the crash.  Do you have time before the crash to disable auto-import? (Tools / Options / Library, un-check "Run auto-import in background")

I'll give that a blast now. The version on the clean user crashes if I try and change the media location to one of my second drives. I don't store my media on my system drive!

The log file will probably point out which particular piece of media is causing the crash.

I popped the logs through in a email. I think it's the media being stored on a different drive. On the clean user it crashed as soon as I change the media location to the non startup drive. Even when it's just an empty folder! And this is with autoimport turned off. Is there a handy way of killing the PMW preferences so I can start fresh, perhaps change media location? I've changed permission on the drives so there shouldn't be any basic write problems.

Yep. On the clean install it crashes as soon as I point to anything other than my startup drive. But it works fine on the startup drive, including folders placed on the desktop instead of the music folder.

I'm sorted: deleted the jriver folder from my users' application support folder, restarted PMW, then moved my media to my startup disc to let it see the files from new. Incidentally, I know you told me to plug out all external drives; my media library was on an internal non-startup disc (mac pro) so I couldn't plug it out. Anyhoo - I'm happy enough with this solution. Thanks for the assistance. Pono has been playing away in the background for most of this!

PonoMusic World 20.0.83 opens fine, but the program crashes as soon as I connect the PonoPlayer every time - I see the player pop up for a second on the side, and then immediate crash. A side quirk - it seems when this happens, the "rotation lock" function on the player somehow engages itself once I disconnect. Weird. Everything was working fine up to 20.0.75. The crash log has been attached.

What happens if the player is connected when you start PMW?  Try that and wait a while before you do anything more.

By the way - I spoke too soon. The library issue is sorted, but I experience the same crash when connecting the Pono that batmundo gets. Log attached!

Same thing, as soon as it detects the player, it crashes. You can see the player load for a split second on the side before the crash happens.

Please report it to Pono.  I don't know what the problem is.

You might try removing the micro SD card.

I have the latest version of Pono on my Mac mini. Since it is a mini, the optical drive is external and plugged in via a usb port. I can burn a CD from iTunes so I know the drive works. However Pono does not seem to recognize the drive and I am not able to rip a CD. Any suggestions?
