I don't think you are doing this correctly. Are you trying to open/play from explorer (Drives & Devices)? I find that right clicking "Play" from there will just open the xml file in the Video_Ts folder, which of course is not the movie.
If you are in Standard View (Video>Files) and you double click on the movie, will it play? Try this first to be sure the movie actually plays - then we can work on your method for opening/playing the movie.

Yes, I used Explorer, right click on VIDEO_TS folder (that includes .vob, .ifo, .bup) and then select play with MC20.
Okay, if it is not possible with MC20, then I know.

I upgraded yesterday hoping that the problem would be solved  as I got this error with MC17.
Seems it isn't or what I want isn't possible.

Guess I have to live with it, regretfully so.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just so I understand you, do you find it preferable to open a file from windows or from the devices and not from the a nice view. I must have missed something, but I'm confused  as I don't see the problem otherwise. From the other posts I thought this was relating to blu rays inserted into a drive .. sorry can't be much help

I would like to play such video's either from within MC or sometimes have a quick view in case I am (for example) reorganizing or so and I am in Explorer.

When having Explorer open (or Opus in my case) and wanting to play the video_ts folder, I need to
- launch MC
- wait a few seconds
- click drives and devices,
- click/open the drive
- click open the folder
- scroll down to the file  (film so and so)
- click video_ts
- click play

This all requires more time/clicks etc. compared to the context menu way.

Within MC a video plays well.
The context menu way ends up in an error.

If there is no solution/fix or whatever, well, so be it.
I was just hoping there was.

In MC tools>Options>File Types do you have the box checked "File Associate" (don't recall exact wording) next to the file type for "vob, ifo"?

Yes. That's what I meant. Last thought on this - if you go to Windows Explorer and right click on the movie's "ifo" file, and select "open with ...", does it show "JRiver Media Center 20"?

Thanks for getting back on this.
When selecting the VIDEO_TS.IFO  -
then context menu Media Center -> Play             (there is also an Open With->Media Center, btw)
then the video plays well.

You may have better luck with the MKV format. I don't rip to Video_TS anymore as I find the mkv superior (and I like having just one file for each movie).

Try converting one movie to MKV and see if you can then open it the way you want (from Drives & Devices).

MKV is free (http://www.makemkv.com)

You would select the movie's ifo file in your Video_ts folder and mkv will then create a single file (movie) from all the vobs. Then just rename the mkv file to the name of the movie.
