How to start MC server BEFORE any user is logged on?
« on: April 30, 2015, 01:44:33 pm »

So the title says it all. How can MC be started as UI-less server BEFORE the user has been logged on?

I tried it with the taks scheduler (which supports this behavior) ans MC20.exe /MediaServer with no success.
The GUI-driven exe can be started by the the scheduler this way - however when you decide to log in then MC is
corrupted so that no video can be played by MC on that machine anymore.

Putting a link into AutoStart does not work either - because a user must be logged on for this.

So - although there is a service for MC it seems that it's impossible to get MC running before anybody has been logged on?

You can't.  Try auto login in Windows.

Why can other DLNA servers do this?

If you post useful questions, you get useful answers.
Statements like "but xxx can do it" are rarely useful. Noone said it's categorily impossible, just that it doesn't.

MC cannot do it because its not designed for that, and its unlikely to change.

Linux is an entirely different OS, you need a X environment, and every process needs a user it runs as.
You can automate startup and login just like we do for the Id though.

Linux is usually better as a multiuser OS though so its probably easier to set something up that runs in the background entirely.
